“Good basic hotel if you have a rail pass.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2014

Bad

-Does not include breakfast
-Cannot walk to Umeda/Namba
-A little complicated to walk to initially.

Good

-Very spacious single room.
By Japanese standards this is the most spacious single bed hotel room that I’ve been to in this country. There’s space to place a couple of suite cases and still move around. Bathrooms are standard Japanese style sized. Memory foam bed and pillows are very comfortable. There is a small fridge and a tv.

-Good surrounding transportation.
Once you figure out how to get to the hotel from the station then it’s a breeze. The subway is about a 3 minute walk and the JR Shin-Osaka station is about a 5 minute walk. The subway is on the midosuji line which will take you to Umeda and Namba (5 minutes and 20 minutes). The JR Shin-Osaka provides Shinkansen access to Kyoto (15 minutes) and Kobe and Haruka access to Kansai Airport (60minutes).

-Fast Free Wifi

-Cheap and very clean hotel

-Staff is friendly and understands basic english.

Other
-Location.
Hotel is in a very very quiet area far away from shopping and nightlife. Umeda is about a 5 minute subway ride and Namba is about 20. Though both are very easy to reach you cannot walk there. It is a very safe area though but it is surrounded by office buildings. It is in a good spot if you have a rail pass and want to travel to Kyoto frequently. The shinkansen ride to Kyoto Station is less than 15 minutes by Hikari or Kodama which comes 2-3 times an hour. Local trains to Kyoto will take about 45 minutes and the express train will take 30.

To get to from ShinOsaka, exit from the station at the bottom floor parking lot side where all the taxis are. This would be the central exit, and is the same floor as the Mc Donald and subway entrance stalls are. There is only one exit that takes you to the ground floor. You should be able to see the hotel from the skyline. Just cut straight across the parking lot and go under the overpass. The hotel is on the block after the overpass.

-You can store your luggage if you arrive before the 2pm check in time.

At the onset let me tell that this is not a bad hotel , but we had particularly bad experience due to lack of proper ventilation/air conditioning in hour room, and the staff was not much helpful on the same. The room and the toilet were spanking clean , Yes this hotel is very close to the Osaka Railway station , so if you are travelling in Japan on a J-pass , this is a good option in Osaka.
There is no Wi-Fi in the room :( . Breakfast is optional ,else chargeable , spread was good with multiple options .

Located a 5-min walk from the Shin Osaka station, this hotel is very conveniently located. My room was clean, well-kept, new-looking, but small from a western perspective. The views to Shin Osaka station were great. I could hear the trains come and go, but it wasn't distracting from much needed sleep. I didn't eat at the hotel, since there were affordable options in the train station on "Gourmet Street". As a solo traveler, this hotel was a good option for $100 USD/night.

Room Tip: You can choose smoking/non-smoking floor.

Hotel was much better than we expected a business hotel to be. Only a short walk from Shin-Osaka JR station, Good views from the rooms, and they're quiet (both the views and the rooms!). While the price per night isn't particularly a bargain (about $120 CDN) for being located in Shin-Osaka, we didn't find it to be out of line with other nearby hotels.

We stayed here for one night on our way back from Hiroshima to Tokyo. We thought the room was perfect for the brief visit to Osaka, as it was nice and close to the train station. The hotel itself was nicely presented, the staff were more then helpful and the room was very clean. One small issue was the small room size- made it a little hard to manoeuvre around the room with two suitcases and backpacks, but this seemed to be the norm in most hotels we stayed in Japan. We would definitely stay here again.

Shin Osaka Washington Hotel Plaza is located just 5 minutes walking from Shin-Osaka train station. If you visit Kansai during popular times of the year (cherry blossoms, fall foliage, etc), then this makes an affordable and convenient base for exploring the region.

I found the hotel to be extremely clean and well-managed. Rooms are typical for a Japanese business hotel, meaning they are smaller than anywhere else in the world - but the room was extremely efficient and loaded with everything you'd need and expect for a stay - hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, tea pot, cups, TV, mirrors, etc.

The neighborhood seems quiet, but continue down the street away from the station for a few blocks and you'll emerge in a neighborhood near a subway stop that has a lot of restaurants, bars, etc. There's a 24-hour convenience store about 20 meters from the front door. Even though it's a quiet street, taxis appear to be on call 24 hours per day right in front of the hotel.

One thing to note is that the wireless connection is available only in the lobby and is unreliable, and that in-room connections require a LAN port - there is no wireless in the rooms, the the wired connection works fine. If this is an issue, bring a USB-to-LAN adapter, or buy one at BIC or Yodobashi camera stores in Japan.

All in all, if you don't mind sleeping in a neighborhood that is not in the heart of the action of Osaka or Kyoto, this hotel offers you everything else.

Room Tip: When in Japan you should always try to get a non-smoking room. Also try to get a room that faces so...

The rooms are very tiny (typical for Japan), but the the bed were horrible. It was way too hard, so we couldn't sleep at all. After complaining once, nothing happend, after the second complaint we got a softer top matrass, but the bed was still very hard.
The room only has one power outlet. No wifi. No English speaking staff.
Only good thing is the location, if you travel by train.
