It was the first Japanese castle I saw on my previous visit and the last one this time. It looks magnificent from the outside. One can only imagine how grand it looked inside. I walked the castle grounds and around the walls and the moat this time

“A nice castle!”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

A long walk (at least 15 mins) from the subway closest station. 600 yen per person admission fee to enter the castle. A nice view from the top floor. You can see all 4 directions of the city. The other 7 floors are exhibition. The escalator will only take you to the 5th floor and you have to walk 3 floors to the top to see the view. In 2nd floor, you can pay 300 yen to wear Sogun's (Japanese General) hamlet and suit to take pictures. You can spend around 30 mins in the castle. I think it worth the money. if you go all the way to the Osaka castle, why not pay 600 yen to see more? We stayed in a decent business inn and didn't try the expensive crap meal (which we planned to) in Domtondori already saved us 20 to 30 thousand yen. Inside the castle, you will see several big fish which made with gold somewhere.

“Lovely in November”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

The fall colors are lovely in the park surrounding the castle grounds (which you cross a moat to visit). Obviously, the exhibits inside of the castle will be more interesting to you if you know something of Japanese history - notably that of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu (but of course this isn't necessary).

“Better than Tokyo's Imperial Palace”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

We can't help but to compare both visits. While Tokyo Imperial Palace was actually a huge garden with beautiful autumn leaves and visitors had no access to the anything resembling the palace, the Osaka Castle was magnificient. It was majestic from the outer boundary to the inner courtyards and when we paid JPY600 each to enter the 7 storey reconstructed castle, it was worth it. You get to learn from the exhibits and paintings the true story of the different era of Japanese history from there. My kids were most impressed with the usage of audio visual story telling when you move from one screen to another in sequence. There were like 30 screens I think. When you leave the castle, you can't help feeling why the Japanese have true fighting spirit and even a desire for world domination.

“Beautiful Scenary”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

If you are accessing Osaka Castle via the train station, be prepared to walk a bit. You will arrive at a park, before you reach the Castle. The scenary with the autumn leaves is beautiful. You can also pay a nominal fee of JPY 600 to enter the castle. there are 8 levels and you can choose to walk up the stairs or queue for the lift. Thereis an observation deck right at the top which provides a landscape of the city. There are also many artifects, some tapes that were screen to explain the hierachy and the history of the Osaka castle.

Most of the information were in Japanese, so we were not able to understand some of the information. Be prepared to spend the morning there, including a scenic garden walk back to the train station.
