“Nice place to visit”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

I got the osaka tourist pass and it offers a visit to osaka castle so I went. Not exactly magnificent as compared to other castle but the parks, garden, museum around it made the trip worthwhile.

“It is a Museum”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

From JR train station, you have to walk about 15 min to reach the castle. There is a entrance fees to enter the museum. It can take up more than 2 hours if you interested in the History of Japan. There is a translation radio set for Free. rental.

“Very educational”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

There are a number of multi-media type displays in the castle. People are directed by taking the elevator up then walking down certain stairs. By the end you learn alot about the Daimyo, castle and other facts about Japan. The view isn't too shabby. There was a nice Japanese fellow out front offering to take photos, he takes quite good ones too! We actually took a taxi there and took the subway back. Cost wasn't bad. Of course lots of souvenirs and food stands. The walk isn't too bad as there is some shade. At the present time Himeji is being restored, so not open to the public (as far as i know).

“Was under the impression that it would be more traditional”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

The facade of the Castle was well preserved and the lookout from the top floor was very refreshing. However, I expected the interior to be more traditional but it was quite modern and housed exhibits of historical artifacts. It was nice to get to know a part of the castle's history but I would have liked to see more of a traditional interior. Perhaps I picked the wrong castle for that.

“Take a train to Himeji instead”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

A bit of a walk from Morinomiya station. Castle looks great from the outside, but a newish contemporary version of an old castle. Best photo vantage spot from the front, however it is spoilt by a big ugly lift built on the outside of the building. Having seen Himeji castle first, please do yourself a favour and get on a train and go there for the day instead. Much more insightful museum inside, with fantastic grounds with outbuildings where you can spend hours wandering around.
