“Take a train to Himeji instead”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

A bit of a walk from Morinomiya station. Castle looks great from the outside, but a newish contemporary version of an old castle. Best photo vantage spot from the front, however it is spoilt by a big ugly lift built on the outside of the building. Having seen Himeji castle first, please do yourself a favour and get on a train and go there for the day instead. Much more insightful museum inside, with fantastic grounds with outbuildings where you can spend hours wandering around.

“Daimyo Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Fortress”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

This is a must do in Osaka, and there is plenty to see and do here so devote 2-3 hours of your travel itinerary for this.

If you are going to take the Osaka loop line, locals have recommended to get off at Morinomiya Station rather than Osakajo-Koen. (I trust them to know better, so I did as told).

There were English captions at the exhibits, but I didn't notice if English guided tours were available. I saw a few Mainland China tour groups with a Mandarin Chinese speaking guide, so there are some non-Japanese language tours going around, but they might be private arrangements, and not officially connected with the park management. Beware of the very strong winds at the topmost part of the central keep.

If the Samurai Warrior thing doesn't interest you, can stroll about the park around the castle grounds, and there are two other museums close by.

The castle is a magnificent piece of architecture and workmanship, and in my opinion, definitely worth seeing.

“Beautiful castle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

We love this place, the park surrounding the castle is really nice, the castle itself is so beautiful. The castle is quite far from the train station, however you can enjoy the park while walking and take pictures around or just take a rest under the trees. We found it so peaceful and we'll go back one day if we can.

“Worth a look”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

Walking to the castle and viewing the imposing moat and walls is probably the best part of the visit, although going to the top is great for the view and to get your bearings in Osaka. The castle is totally modernised inside and contains a not particularly inspiring museum. If you are able bodied take the stairs to avoid waiting, and look at the exhibits on the way up. We enjoyed the breeze at the top on a very hot day, and identifying the the layout of the castle and surrounds as they would have been in the past.

“A beautifull castle museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

The well preserved castle has inside galleries, which can be reached by an elevator.
On the 2nd floor there is a private exhibition, only for those who buy a special ticket at the entrance. I haven't been in that exhibition, but the others are very nice.

If you are not into Japanese history or not a fan of museums, you can walk around and enjoy the area. Also there are really nice restaurants.
