“Best Hotel in Shinsaibashi”
Reviewed December 19, 2012 via mobile

Located along Midosuji, which is the 5th Ave or Champs Ellyses of Osaka. Well connected to the subway (under the hotel), steps away from Shinsaibashi-suji shopping street, etc. This JAL hotel has free wifi as well. Classic Japanese hospitality and cleanliness.

Stayed at the Hotel Nikko in late November while in Osaka and have no complaints. The hotel was very nice and clean and the staff was pleasant and helpful. Location of the hotel is great with the famous long street - Dotonbori - right across the intersection which is lined with tons of shops, restaurants and small food stalls. Also if you walk out thru the back of the hotel and walk around the streets back there you will find lots of great little restaurants and additional shops. On one of these streets you will find Hokkyokusei restaurant - the best spot for omuraisu. Definitely a must have if in the area.

Stayed a night at this hotel over a weekend. The best point is its location, right in the middle of Osaka's shopping heartland. Within walking distance you can range from branded (LV, Gucci etc) to a fantastic covered shopping street that goes on for blocks and blocks. So great location, now for the bad bits. The hotel is old (30 years or so) and it really shows. Lifts are very slow, rooms are very clear but are showing their age. Breakfast is simply a joke for a hotel in this price bracket (SGD500 per night). A thirty minute queue just to get in the door for breakfast, poor selection and overly efficient staff. If you are going to stay in Osaka and are in this bracket of hotels, then I suggest the Hilton or others. Location is not as good (but taxis and subway can get you anywhere quickly) but the hotel is far far better. Bottom line, there are far better places to spend you money than in the Osaka Niko.

Room Tip: Try the Hilton first

Lobby and public areas very grand and well placed. Great location to use subway as it is directly underneath hotel. Rooms disappointing. Very small. Double bed against wall in room making access for one of us difficult (me). Rooms very small and only storage for one case. Service good although some staff feel the telephone is more important than the person standing in front of them. Nice bars, discount for guests. Breakfast too expensive. Plenty of shopping around and restaurants close by.

Walking distance to excellent shopping but it is expensive shopping - hi end fashion. Shops don't open until 11am so don't count on doing much before then.

Room Tip: Be prepared to be cramped in room if more than one person. Go out for breakfast (mcdonalds and other...

So convenient for the subway, clean, quiet, and comfortable. Friendly staff, great view over Osaka from the upper floors. Shops close by. Rooms about average size for Japan, good air conditioning. Would highly recommend for the price.
