“NICE TRADITIONAL HOTEL”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

I enjoyed staying at this hotel during International Jazz Day celebration, held in the beautiful Osaka Castle Park 4/30/14. My suite was well-appointed, the room service excellent, breakfast selection great. My only complaint in the suite was the inconvenience of electrical outlets bedside. Otherwise my stay was perfect. The shopping gallery had boutiques for every taste, I found my achilles tendon! I would definitely recommend this hotel, and would stay again.

Room Tip: Suite 1040 facing park is excellent. A plus is windows open.

This is a lovely hotel in a very convenient part of Osaka, although some of the decor could do with updating. The service is excellent - nothing is too much trouble. The quest relations went out of their way to provide any piece of information or advice that we requested.

Although we arrived very early in the morning we didn't have to wait too long before we could check in to our room. Check-in went smoothly. Our room was a very good size (unusual in Japan) with a fantastic view of Osaka Castle. We paid around GBP109 per night - which we thought was reasonable for Japan.

The room furniture is comfortable and includes a small refrigerator, kettle, LCD flat screen TV, hair dryer and trouser press. A good comfortable bed and a selection of pillows, a sofa and a comfy chair with a coffee table plus a desk and chair if you are working. The room was spotless. The bathroom was a good size and again very clean with lots of toiletries that were re-stocked each day. Internet by LAN and WLAN in the room and is free of charge.

The hotel is conveniently located for the Osaka Loop line - station Osakajo-koen and the subway Osaka Business Park station on the Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line. So it's very convenient for travelling around in Osaka.

Also near to the hotel there are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores and the pier for the Aqua-Liner, an aqua-bus touring Osaka's Okawa River, is just across the road and over the river via the bridge.

It is only a short walk (~10 mins) up to Kyobashi station where you can catch the Keihan line to Kyoto and here there is also the Keihan department store. Plus lots more shops and restaurants.

Temmabashi is about 25-30 mins walk away (or catch a train from Kyobashi on the Keihan line) and here again there are loads of restaurants and shops along the side of the river.

Unfortunately, there is no regular bus service to Kansai Airport, which is really convenient when travelling to the airport with luggage, however, the train journey doesn't take long but with cases it's a little awkward - especially as Osakajo-koen doesn't have elevator access and the trip requires a change of trains at Tennoji.

The restaurants in the hotel seem to be expensive for what we had - small portions for big prices. We decided to go out to eat. I believe that if you sign up for the New Otani loyalty scheme it provides a big discount on breakfast so may be worth looking into before you book/stay?

I am happy to recommend the New Otani Hotel and will definately stay there next time I visit Osaka.

Near JR Osakajokoen and Osaka Business Park stations. From Kansai Airport you can take JR Line, transfer to a No. 11 train at Tennoji, get off at Osakajokoen station and you’re only a few minutes’ walk away.

The hotel is also a short walk away from shops and restaurants in buildings behind it and a few minutes' walk to the Osaka castle and the aqualiner river cruise terminal across the river. You can also walk to Osaka Business Park subway station and take a train to Shinsaibashi.

The hotel has a big lobby. Easy, straightforward check in, with very friendly staff at the reception. We got upgraded to a junior suite when we arrived.

The room is really spacious and well-appointed, very comfortable for a family of four. The large, clear windows make for great views of Osaka Castle and the Osaka skyline. Good-sized bathroom with all the niceties (even shaving cream) and extra restroom right at the door. The bed provides a good night's sleep, but the pillows are made from kapok (from the ceiba tree) and you could feel the seeds on the pillow surface (although this appears to be a practice in Osaka hotels). The hotel provides free wi-fi in-room and the signal is very good.

The Junior Suite has two TV sets, by the way, plus a DVD player, just in case you needed it.

The breakfast buffet selection at the ground floor is good, but the free breakfast that comes with the room is only for bread, fresh fruits and juices. Suggest you upgrade to Japanese and western buffet for an extra ¥500 per person, and you’ll then be able to enjoy the entire buffet range.

I booked this hotel because of the great reviews I saw here on Trip Advisor. And the reviews were spot on!

My wife and I stayed in the New Otani Hotel In April during our Japan trip(Kyoto, Osaka, Kanazawa, Miyjima Island and Tokyo). The room was huge and very well appointed. The staff offered fantastic service and made us feel like VIPs (best service we received in Japan). The hotel is just across the bridge from Osaka-jo Park and Osaka Castle. It is just steps from the Osaka OBP station which made it very easy to get around town. When we return to Japan, we will definitely stay here again.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times now, and have never been disappointed. With a magnificent view of Osaka castle and the park, the hotel is in easy reach of most Osaka venues. JR Osaka-jo-koen station (on the loop line) is close to the hotel, as is Osaka Business Park subway.

Stayed here for 3 nights during our 21 day trip across Japan, and wish all of our hotels could have been this pleasant.

Every single staff member we encountered spoke English very well. Staff was friendly and courteous, and immediately available whenever needed. They escorted us directly to our rooms, provided us with advice and maps when asked, and did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and welcome.

The room itself was on the 10th floor, and through the huge picture window we were immediately treated to a beautiful nighttime view of Osaka Castle, the surrounding park, and the cityscape beyond that. The room was absolutely huge by Japanese standards. Sitting by the window in the morning, drinking tea, reading the complimentary English newspaper and enjoying the view, was a very relaxing and pleasant experience.

The hotel restaurants were quite expensive, and we only partook once. The meal was very small and average, considering the price. It is apparent this is a business hotel, with the majority of business guests probably just charging their expensive meals to the company. There is a nice bakery located right in the lobby, but get your meals elsewhere.

Though it is a business hotel, located in the middle of Osaka Business Park, it is certainly a good stay for the tourist as well. It's a fairly quick 10 minute walk through the park to the Osaka-koen JR station, or about a 5 minute walk to the nearest metro station.

The only complaint would be that the hotel is quite dated. Though it is kept clean, the carpet is quite stained and faded in both the hallways and rooms. Fixtures, surfaces, furniture all feel very dated and in need of replacement. This hotel could benefit a LOT from some updating, even just replacing the carpets.

I read a review somewhere that this is a three-star hotel that bills itself as a five-star hotel, and I can't argue with that sentiment. I get the impression that this hotel was quite the gem in its heyday, but that lustre has faded significantly. The only thing that hasn't faded is the quality of service from the staff, and the castle view will never get old.

Recommended - I would have given a full five-stars if not for the need of renovations.

Room Tip: Make sure you're getting a higher room with a castle view.
