This has to be THE place Osaka style okonomiyaki. It is located in the basement of the Umeda Sky Building. Nearer to the fountain at the back. The restaurant itself is rather small but it is very cozy & has a lot of character. A unique feature are the customer's writings, notes, business cards & photos on all the walls. We went there around 3pm so no line however it does get crowded during peak hours. Service was super friendly & I think that is what draws the crowd in time & time again.
With the waiter's recommendation we ordered the surf & turf okonomiyaki & the yakisoba (noodle based). Plus some draft Asahi to wash it all down. Took while but we enjoyed the cold beers & absorbing the atmosphere. The owner is a charmer. He writes notes for all the female customers. Real smooth. When the meal came it looked so appetizing. This wasn't the typical that is drowned in mayonnaise. Here its all about the main ingredients and just enough sauce. Crisp outer layer but moist inside. Really yummy. Both the dishes were similar to an extent but different at the same time. When we were done we ended up ordering another okonomiyaki (pork this time) and 2 more beers. It was nice just chilling there observing how the owner & staff mingle with everyone. They were really good with customers. Irregardless where they came from. I tried snapping a pic and they ended up posing for me.
It was a good time. If not for the okonomiyaki at least for the experience. Highly recommended!
