Beautiful garden, close to osaka castle and subway, lovely rooms and great service. Miki made us feel very at home on our first night in Japan.

My son and I stayed here in June 2011 and the place was fantastic. Fairly easy to find with the map provided on their website, the house is only an 8 minute walk from the subway station. We were the only ones in the house - not even the owners were there, but they did arrange for a friend to check us in, show us around and provide us with some advice about the local surroundings. The Gardens are exceptional and I'd highly recommend a stay here for a unique Japanese feel to your holiday.

My daughter and I stayed at Carpe Diem in early April 2011. Misa and Miki welcomed us to a small peaceful oasis in the city. Close to Osaka Castle, it is a level walk to convenience stores, local restaurants and transport choices for sightseeing in other parts of Osaka.
Our room was a delight...a view onto the garden, tatami bedding and a small ensuite that was spotlessly clean. The communal kitchen / seating area had everything for a self catering stay and access to the internet was complimentary.
The bonus here is the accent on Japanese traditional arts - music, poetry, flower arranging and the tea ceremony. You may be lucky enough - as we were - to be invited to a performance or ceremony. Not a "tourist" event, but in the company of Japanese people as they proudly keep alive their traditions.
My introduction to Japan through Carpe Diem was an uplifting experience. I highly recommend a stay here if you are looking for "experiences" in your travel. A great choice for non hotel accomodation at a very reasonable cost.

Firstly, if you are travelling by train, the map on the website is from Midori SUBWAY station, not Minimoyara TRAIN station.
Once you arrive, the hostel is a large private house converted to numerous self-contained rooms with ensuite.
Having a kitchen (free coffee in the mornings) with Internet, guide books and a place to cook was wonderful. Carpe Diem is close to Osaka Castle park, and just a few blocks from a subway station. We extended our stay we were enjoying Osaka so much.

We stayed at Carpe Diem for 3 nights and we were the only guests there, so we got the whole place to ourselves :) Our room was facing the little pond and garden. It was huge, clean, spacious and fitted with aircond/heater, toilet and shower. Love the tatami floor, the paper windows and the wooden structure. It can't get any more traditional than that in my opinion, especially in the middle of Osaka.

The service was excellent ~ share kitchen, free internet, freedom to come in and out with our own set of keys, clean sheets. There is a 24/7 supermarket nearby that we really love, we made a point to go there every time we passed by. You will never go hungry! There is a small fruit and vegie market close by as well.

On our last day, we had breakfast - yakiniku and takoyaki at a local shop outside the supermarket. It was cheap, hot and yummy. Just can't get enough of this area. The walk to the train station was interesting.. we got to see how the locals live.

Thank you Carpe Diem, please don't change!

What can I say, this was the best ever place we stayed at in Japan. Carpediem is an oasis of calm in bustling Osaka and the garden is just stunning. We stayed in the Japanese room and it was so beautiful, exactly the Japanese experience we had in mind. The owners were so kind and welcoming, not to mention helpful! It was great to be able to use the kitchen and the Internet there. Carpediem is about 5 minutes walk from the nearest subway station on the Chuo line. There is also a JR loop line station in the other direction (10 minutes walk). The map provided on the site is really helpful and we found the place with no problems. Apart from the Japanese room, there is also a teahouse with private facilties. I can't stress enough how beautiful the garden was, I spend hours sitting in my room on the tatami mats and admiring the garden and pond outside. I have been to Kyoto and have seen plenty of gardens there, but Carpediem's is nicer! A big big thank you to MIsa and Mikki, we will stay with you again next time we are in Osaka!

Nestled away in the back streets of a small suburb in Osaka Japan, you can find the small gem that is Carpe Diem. What can I say? We were not expecting such a quaint and pleasant and tranquil retreat amongst the busy-ness that seems to surround you everywhere you go in Japan.
Carpe Diem was a great chance to fully immerse ourselves in the full traditional culture that is Japan. We stayed for 9 days, and it was wonderful. The care-taker Miki is absolutely amazing. Her English is extremely good so she is able to help with anything that you require. She is very friendly and extremely helpful and made our stay in Osaka an especially wonderful one. I got a little sick a few days after we arrived and Miki was extremely caring and went above and beyond to help nurse me back to health.
The rooms are traditional tatami rooms where you sleep on futons including the gravel pillows, which take a bit of getting used to but are great once you are, and the rooms overlook a Japanese garden just outside your rice paper sliding doors (don't worry, there is some large clear glass doors too so you can look out but still have privacy and protection from the elements). It's really very cosy...and very spacious! The garden is beautiful and a great way to wake up - each morning my hubby would open up the rice paper doors and we would just sit on our futons staring out peacefully at the beautiful garden. You also get use of the kitchen as well as the free internet access so you can keep your friends and family updated on your holiday. During our stay, we were even invited to participate in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, which was a unique experience that was one of the highlights of our trip.
The train station is a pleasant 6-7 minutes away so close enough to walk on a daily basis and there are great little Japanese restaurants, cafes and grocery shops within a few minutes walk.
The only downside to Carpe Diem is that some of the rooms have shared toilet/shower facilities, however when we stayed there, it was quiet so we didn't have to share. However don't let this put you off or you will miss out on a fantastic opportunity to truly experience Japanese culture.
