“Late blooming cheery trees”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

As most would've have already know, every year the Osaka Mint Bureau opens it facility for a week to the public for viewing of late blossoming cherry trees. This 2013 we were fortunate enough to catch the first day of the viewing and it was packed with locals and foreigners alike.
Just get to temmabashi station and follow the signs up to ground level and then follow the hordes of people walking towards the Mint Bureau ground.

“130 varieties of cherry blossoms - only 1 week a year!”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

We lucked out when the timing of our trip to Osaka happened to coincide with the one week a year the Osaka Mint opens to the public for sakura viewing. While it was extremely crowded with locals and tourists alike, there are many, many trees and the excitement in the air is truly infectious.

As a bonus, local street food vendors line up along the walkway back to the train station, and we got to do our own street food crawl.

Make sure you come early April as the cherry blossoms do not last that long. We were very lucky to experience such wonderful colors.

“Nice Cherry Blossoms”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

The Mint is open to the public during the second half of April each year. They have many different kinds of cherries--mostly late blooming. So when someiyoshino(most abundant cherry blossoms) are finished, you can still enjoy late bloomers here. The down side is that it is usually very crowded.

“Simply Beautiful!”

Cherry Blossom Festival at Osaka Mint Museum.

Apparently this event takes place annually ( determined by the estimated time of Cherry blossoms blooming) and lasts for about a week. We were just lucky that we were in Osaka on the first day of this festival. The blooms were so beautiful we did not even consider entering the museum anymore.
The blossoms here are the clustered kind of blooms-different from the ones found at the other parks. And they bloom about a week or two after the normal Cherry Blossoms bloom.
Definitely a must do. It's about half a kilometer walk into the compound of the Mint Museum, and there are a lots of people. But the Japanese people are very courteous that it was never really crowded and there was no pushing. It was almost a solemn experience with the Cherry Blossom trees. Lots of food stalls along the way to experience local fare. You may not enter the compound with food being eaten though.
Definitely A great experience!
