Osaka Castle grounds are more interesting than the castle donjon (which is a reconstructed modern concrete building). After walking thru the second gate (Sakuramon Gate) one finds himself at Sakuramon-masugata Square where the wall built with immense stones, Takoishi (octopus stone) and Furisodeishi (long-sleeved kimono stone). The plaza in front of the donjon is the most crowded and hectic place in the park, other areas are peaceful and quiet. Walking the outside perimeter of the castle provides a great overview of the castle's formidable fortifications, re-entry to the park available thru other gates

I was amazed at the contrast between the old Osaka Castle, in the middle of the park, surrounded by modern skyscrapers. Takes you away. Stay for the light show in the evening, they project images on the castle walls. An awesome visit, but loses points for the huge crowds who attend in the evenings, not a fan of crowds.

It is a very nice castle. Well maintain and clean. I like the structure and the gold beam around the roof. Is a museum so take your time around it. Along the street to tthe subway there is small hawker food mainly japanese snack and it is good.

Great way to spend time in this very pretty park. Don't miss the castle and shrine, the castle tower is worth a visit with a small fee and great overlook of Osaka, and take a free tour of the castle grounds if you can find a guide.
