We stayed at the Vista Grande for one night, easy check in, helpful and friendly staff. The room is well design and correct size for Japanese standards. I will definitely rebook this hotel if I have to stay again in Osaka.

Room Tip: The non smoking rooms are on top floors.

This popular hotel is particularly great for night owls, those with a strong fear of starvation and for everyone desiring reasonably priced 4 star accomodation in a central location, within walking distance of Namba train station, It will also appeal to those who enjoy shopping. Located a street away from the Dotonburi river, this hotel has polite, attentive staff with good English who will explain how to get to the fresh food market, the kitchen utensil specialty shopping arcade and Umeda train station with its large underground shopping area which is one of the largest in Japan, among other places of interest. The room was not large but it was perfectly adequate for 2 people and very clean. As our room did not face the Dotonburi river, we enjoyed peace and quiet. TV is all in Japanese so entertainment is self created or BYO unless you understand Japanese. Access to 24 hours of non stop movies at a relatively low price was available but this had little appeal. Internet was lightning quick and free and Skype connection was great. It was a delight to explore Osaka from this hotel and we always felt safe.

This hotel was really very good value for money and brilliantly located in the middle of down-town Osaka - pretty much on the doorstep of the Dotonbori district. The rooms were very new and up to date but the real surprise was the excellent room service and the restaurant which provided that service. Restaurant Barck - I think it may not be part of the hotel as the room service had to be paid for in cash rather than charged to the room but it was much much better than expected. Another tip is to ask directions to the 7-11 supermarkets as they have ATMs which will accept foreign cards.

Room Tip: Osaka is not a pretty place except after dark when neon is the order of the day (night?) but don'...

Read the posts below re: directions, they are quite accurate.

Get a map of the Namba area so as to get the exact location of the hotel and to know where the Dotombori and Shimshaibashi area are.

The rooms, and the hotel in general, are very clean! At 10th floor, it was very quiet too. Our view was an unfinished construction, but it ok if you're not choosy. There was a vendo on the floor as well for beer/water/coffee. Though a complimentary bottle is provided daily.

LAN connection in the rooms are very fast.

We had little contact with the hotel staff but the few times that we talked to them, they were very nice, polite and helpful.

The last time we were in Osaka, we stayed in Umeda area. But if you want to stay in an area where the action is at your doorstep and where you do not have to take the train to return to your hotel at night, then this is the place for you.

It is located on the street where the girlie/boylie bars are located, but the Japanese are generally a very polite folk. You will pass by a lot of drunk Osakans, but they are hardly a bother. They're mostly amusing, actually. Nevertheless, always be on your guard especially if you have kids with you.

We stayed 4 nights from 26 December. There was a problem at check-in , we had confirmation of 2 booked rooms but our triple room was not allocated. Front desk staff handled this very professionally by providing an extra single room for that night then the following day moving our 3 teenagers to a triple room. As our kids are almost adults this wasn't a problem for us, but would be if younger children were involved.

Excellent hotel, we also enjoyed their restaurant downstairs, and location close to shops and restaurants, and was 10 minute walk to Namba Station. Free wifi on 2 computers in reception. The street is certainly an eye opener at night being in the red light district and from a mother's viewpoint unsuitable for young children.

4 star quality hotel right in the thick of the action in osaka. The hotel is just down the road from the big H&M store and runs parallel to the river. 1 min walk to all the shops, restaurants and bars... And a 30 sec walk to some of the more questionable establishments (but don't worry, very safe and barely noticeable). Rooms were very quiet - must have double glazing.
We were expecting something more like 3 star quality for the great price but were pleasantly surprised by the modern and (relatively for japan) good sized room. Concierge were helpful, easily helping us send out luggage onto our hotel in nagano (which we would recommend for anyone! $15 and no snowboards to lug around for a week!).

The hotel is very clean and tidy (as usual with Japanese hotels).
It is the exactly located in the busiest area (with shopping/food).

However, it is quite difficult to find the hotel from the Nankai Express - look for a sign that says 'Gold Member' or 'Gold' which is the Karaoke bar next to the hotel).

Tips to Locate the Hotel:
1. Get out of the Nankai Train Station (it is above the Takashimaya Store)
2. Cross the road and you will see 2 paths which both have a covered roof.
3. Choose the left one and keep on walking ahead (you need to cross one or two traffic lights) until you see a wooden bridge and the famous moving crab - there is a Starbucks there too.
4. Turn right into the road where the Starbucks/moving crab is and you will pass along many restaurants and stores (including Evisu and Golden Dragon Ramen).
5. Turn left into a bridge/path when you see a large cow figure hanging on top of the restaurant.
6. You should see the Karaoke Bar which says 'Gold Member' and the hotel is exactly located next to it.
