Really nice atmosphere as They try hard to make it homely - which pays off. Great people and a great place to stay. Good price too. Would recommend!
Walls are very thin.
Good kitchen area and communal area. which is kept very clean.
It is right next to Fukushima station too.

My girlfriend and myself stayed at this hostel during February and had an absolute blast. Not only was the hostel incredibly easy to access (with Fukushima station being on the main railway line from the airport as well as the main osaka loop) but also terrific value for money. The friendly staff were full of information about cool things to do in the surrounding areas and the hostel manager Mr. Yano even went as far as to take the hostel guest out on free tours every Thursday (you need only pay for what you would have had you gone on your own anyway). The common room/ kitchen area is situated near the main entrance so it's a great and easy way to meet other hostel guests, if that wasn't enough incentive there's also a weekly international party where the hostel supplies a wide array of drinks all for 300 yen each where heaps of locals come to practise their English, so you can take advantage of that and try some Japanese. The hostel is incredibly close to main chains such as 7/11 and yoshinoya for those on a budget but also within a stones throw of some authentic Japanese restaurants many of which serve blowfish (which mr Yano happily took myself and two other guest out to eat). Over all this hostel is convenient, clean and full of great staff. The only gripe is the lack of an elevator, but that's a non issue if you're staying on the second floor like myself. Would highly recommend to anyone on a budget or not, the experience is worth far more than the money paid for this little gem.

I have to echo what everyone else has said about the staff. We did not get to meet Mr. Yano (he was sick all week) but Meg and the rest of the girls were always attentive and gave great suggestions on things to do and how to get places around Kansai. The hostel is right off the JR Fukushima station. Location wasn't really a problem for us - although we ended up making the 10 minute walk to the JR Osaka station most days. We had a private room on the 3rd floor. Our room was comfortable. Kind of wished there was one more toilet on our floor. 3 showers were quite convenient - we hardly ever had to wait for a shower. There were a variety of people staying - younger college students, some families with older kids, singles, and some couples like us. I'm not sure it would be a great idea to show up there without a reservation. They seem to be pretty busy.
Kitchen and common areas very well kept. There is free coffee and tea available. Woo hoo!
The famous beer vending machine is great - if I said we didn't use it a lot I'd be lying :) but it's great to have if you just want to pre-funk before you go out or just kick back and relaz after a long day of sightseeing.
Anyway. Bring towels, otherwise you can rent one for a fee. Shampoo and body wash are provided. There are a few convenience stores close by and some restaurants (Yoshinoya and McD's are worth mentioning as far as chains go) and some other bars (there is a wine standing bar close to the hostel that looks awesome - we didn't go in cause there was never any room!!!!)
These guys also do some day trips and excursions if you want to join. They also host an international exchange party on Friday nights. You get one free drink and many shots at making friends. Apparently some Japanese who want to practice their English also join on this - we met some pretty cool returning Japanese there.
For a hostel this is a pretty nice place. Would definitely stay here again or in another one of their locales in Japan. Great value.

One of the hallmarks of a great hostel is that once you arrive there, you instantly feel right at home. J-Hoppers is such a hostel. The hostel is just a three-minute walk from the JR Fukushima Station. I arrived very late at midnight but got a warm welcome from one of the female staff, Keiko even though check in ends at 10 pm. Keiko recommended a fantastic (but cheap) restaurant in Kobe and it was one of the highlights of my travel.

I stayed for one night in the 8-bed mixed dorm rooms and wished I had stayed longer. The hostel hosts an international exchange party on some nights, which will give you an opportunity to interact with other travelers. A great deal for the budget-conscious adventurer.

My friend and I stayed one night at Osaka J-Hoppers. The staff who served us, Meg, is very friendly and jovial. Even though it was a short stay, she made an effort in getting to know us.

1) I am particular about the cleanliness of the room, washroom and shower, and theirs are very clean. 2) If you are fond of making friends from different countries and not sure about what to do in Japan, I would recommend staying here. They organise different group activities in and out of the hostel and provide recommendations on where to visit in Kansai. 3) There is a kitchen which can be used freely by the guests! 4) The only flip side is that they have no elevators and they have five levels (the last level is where some of the private rooms are located, if you are thinking about staying at one of their private rooms) but this is not a problem at all if you don't mind the stairs! We took out the items we need and stored our heavy luggage in their luggage store before proceeding to our room.

Overall, we enjoyed the stay even though it is only one night. I would love to stay here for a longer duration if I visit Osaka again!

Stayed for 3 nights in December 2013. Place was actually sold out, so we were lucky to stay here.
About a 10 min walk from Osaka Station... different from Shin-Osaka station, which is a major transit hub... connects Kansai airport, Shinkansen lines, etc.
You don't have to get on the regional train to Fukushima station, just walk from Osaka station.

Staff really went above and beyond with trying to help me with my travel plans. I'm a little disappointed I didn't get a photo with Mr. Yano (60 year old man with a great attitude). There's a bulletin board with pictures of the staff and a brief bio, really brings a sense of community to the hostel.

Rooms are clean, beds are comfy, showers have soap and shampoo. Towels are 70 yen!!
Instant coffee and tea also provided for free. 2 computers downstairs if you need to book something online. Free and fast wi-fi that you can access while in your room! Don't have to be in the common area like other hostels.

Lots of bars around the area in these narrow back alleys, even on a Monday or Tuesday night at midnight, there are lots of people inside drinking.

I can't recommend this place enough.

Without a doubt, J-Hoppers is my absolute favourite in the country.

The hostel is located minutes away from JR Fukushima Station. It is located further down a side street, but one would never feel unsafe in the neighbourhood. The stores, restaurants, and people on the streets (lots of fortunetellers) contribute to the quiet and safe environment.

I cannot speak for the dorms, but the private twin rooms are clean and spacious. The washrooms and bathrooms are always clean as well. Laundry is not free - but for an extremely cheap price! - but detergent is free and a clothes rack is available to hang your belongings to dry.

The hostel offers a lot of space for people to simply relax or hang out with others. Not only is there a basement (sofas, computers, and television), but the roof is opened 24/7. The kitchen and common room are located on the main floor.

I highly recommend people to drop by the international exchange party held on Fridays! We met quite a lot of cool people there - other travellers as well as Japanese people who want to practice English. Alcoholic drinks are served and the first one is for free.

Final verdict: You will not regret staying here. There is also a J-Hoppers located in Kyoto, so if you are planning to visit there as well as Osaka, you have a few discounts (i.e. discount, free bike rental, postcards) to choose from - once you stay more than three nights.
