“I liked it.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2009

I only booked one night here as I am 6"2 and was worried that I wouldn't fit in the capsule as they look pretty small in the photos. It turned out to be a really good experience though, I fit in fine (without knees bent), slept more comfortably than the beds in hostels too. This is an awesome place to stay if you are planning on a big night as it is right in the middle of the nightclubs district (Namba). The spa and sauna felt really great before bed .after a long night spent on my feet. Only problem I had was finding the place (and I can speak Japanese fluently and have been to Osaka before). I suggest catching a taxi from the station on your first visit. It's not too hard to find your way back to the hotel once you have been there.

There are only two reason why anyone would stay in this hotel, but they are significant: 1. You want to try the capsule experience. 2. You want to be right in the middle of happening nightlife and fierce shopping. Otherwise, look elsewhere. They have numerous rules and are strict with their expectations. The staff is quite unpleasant. Check-out time was at 10 a.m., which means-SAYONARA... don't think about loitering at all. I was waiting for a friend of mine who came down at 10:15 (they charged her for late checkout)... they did not allow me to use the Internet during that time because I had already checked out. This was even after I explained to them I was waiting for my friend to come down and that I needed to get directions for my next hotel. They really don't care. In general, the male staff seems to be more approachable than the females they have at the front desk.

You can purchase a calling card and use it at the phone they have in the lobby. There is a 24-hour McDonalds located about two blocks away.

As for the showers, some people were unhappy with the fact that you had to shower naked in front of others as they are communal. But, it is within your gender.

A plus is that they have mini-toothbrushes, body sponge, towels, shampoo, conditioner, face wash and lotion.

As for meeting people, I found that I met tons of people at this place.

At first daunting since its really where businessmen relax or spend a night when they're either too drunk, need a place to crash for the night or simply wanting cheap accomadation with access to the spa facilities and location. There are a few rules: no shoes allowed past the front step (there are shoelockers), no smoking in the capsule area and try to maintain a quiet environment for others.
For the spa, undress in the locker-room into pyjamas and proceed to undress nude in the spa locker room. First shower, then pour spa-water over self before entering the bath itself. There were 3 baths (hot, cold&jacuzzi) and 1 sauna in the mens. Remember to not douse flannel into bath, place on top of head and pour spa water overself before entering bath. No-one likes to share other's grime in the bath!
The capsule was spacious despite being 6foot high: measured 1x1x2metres and the bed was hard but soft enough to be comfortable. I'd definately recommend if travelling as a backpacker or wanting to use onsen without breaking the bank.
There is a jap-manga section as well as 4 lcd-tv with several reclinable comfy chairs and also vending machines. Smoking is permitted everywhere except at the PC's, capsules, LCD-tv area and baths.
I enjoyed my stay and used the foot massager (100yen/10mins) which was relaxing after walking several hours. Despite the close proximities of the capsules, i personally had a good night's sleep and the alarm clock was easy enough to figure out.
I didn't like the staff: they were a little rude but they were helpful nonetheless. Probably the high turnover of customers.
There were 3 PC's with internet as well as free wi-fi in the lounge: twas slow, but good enough to surf.
I found myself getting lost each time i returned to the hotel but the Osakians were very helpful. Just remember to get a map from the several helpful tourist info offices.
24hr access after check in but have to check out between 1000-1400 for cleaning. There are lockers located outside (300 yen for big locker and 200 for smaller) for 24hrs (make sure u have everything as it resets each time u open). The lockers provided inside are big enough for a 70ltr rucksack same as the 300yen outside.
The location is brilliant for Minami (Shinsaibashi, Namba & Dōtonbori).

This place is simply perfect if you're planning to go clubbing or stay out all night and want to have a place to crash for a few hours / freshen up without spending too much (2700 yen/night if I remember correctly). It's a fairly short walk from the happenin' places in Namba once you figure out where you are. It's worth it for the price/prime location. It's also great because of all the amenities available (mentioned in the review below mine). I love the locker where you can stash your belongings without worrying about that while you sleep.

Most capsule hotels are "men only" but this one has an area designated for women with a locked door to add the feeling of security. Only female guests are allowed inside where you sleep and bathe (shared area but if you are there at the right time, sometimes you'd be the only one using the shower facility).

The capsule is actually not as small as I thought it would be. Even though one end is only closed with a curtain, it is reasonably quiet but of course you may still hear the faint noise of feet shuffling and such. It's clean and definitely a cool "cultural experience". Of course if you are looking for a luxuriously comfortable holiday, this is probably not for you.

I've stayed here 4 times in the last two years, and I always recommend it to friends visiting Osaka. It is right in the middle of Shinsaibashi near Triangle Park--step outside and you are in the thick of Amerikamura--shopping, nightlife, and excitement. It's convenient to walk to Dotonbouri or Namba Station, and the subway and/or train will get you to Osaka Castle, Osaka Aquarium, Universal Studios fairly quickly. Day trips to Kyoto or Nara are totally doable.

If you book online, the price is 2600 yen (about $25)--really cheap for the location. Check in is whenever (some people just come in after a long night out for a bath before work). Check out is 10, or noon if you're staying another day. It's closed noon-3pm. The staff is friendly and helpful, and it seems there's generally someone there who speaks some English.

Women have their own area that includes a locker room (w/ towel, washcloth, pyjamas), a dressing area (w/ tootbrush/paste, hairbrush, hairdryer, lotion, soap), a sauna, washer/dryer, vending (soft drinks, beer), and bath (w/ shampoo, conditioner, soap, & razors). The capsules have a light, a little aircon vent (like on a plane), tv, radio, and alarm clock. Everything is very clean--the linens and towels are changed every day. I assume the men's area is similar--my male friends never complain.

There's a few free computers with internet in the lobby, a restaurant with basic Japanese food on the second floor, and storage lockers just outside the hotel. The staff will charge your phone/camera/ipod for free at the front desk.

This is a great place for people who don't want to hang out in their hotel room all day. 3 warnings. 1st, the bath is Japanese-style: one big room with little showering stations to clean off before soaking in one communal bath. And the baths close at 9:30 i believe. 2nd, the lockers are not large. If you are traveling with loads of luggage, you might have some trouble. But a big back pack fits with a bit of a push. 3rd, if you are a very light sleeper, you might have trouble sleeping in a room with 30 other people, but the capsules are very private and I've found the air vent makes for nice white noise. I've never had trouble sleeping there, even for an early evening nap before hitting the town.
