“Excellent location with resonable price”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

It is a very old Hotel about 17yrs old but the location is superb for those who likes to go for shopping & eating outlets are surrounded too. Pls walk straight to the Namba station instead of
using the shinsaibashi station for the train to Kansai Airport if you have more than 2 pcs of luaggages. As from the namba station you can use the elevator straight to the rapid express station to the Kansai Airport. If not it will be headache on carrying the bags down & up using the staircase for Shinsaibashi Station.

Room Tip: Rqt room on the 1st flr, nearby the lift area can receive WIFI signal.

The Hotel Villa Fontaine Shinsaibashi boasts a good location, but that's about it. The room was tiny, the breakfast was limited and the ambiance was generic-western hotel. We were meant to have a crib set up for our little one, but there wasn't even sufficient room to squeeze in a crib. The room was loud, the bathroom was extremely dated and the staff weren't so helpful.

Have long been a fan of the Villa-Fontaine hotels and based my booking on my previous experience at their Ueno hotel. I had assumed that all Villa-Fontaine hotels would be of a similar standard but sadly this is not the case.

Indeed the hotel's location is excellent, but this may have lead to management's apparent apathy towards other aspects of the hotel.

Firstly, the rooms desperately need a sprucing up as they have not been very well maintained. The shower was a nightmare as the head was loose and would rotate every time you turned the water on thus sending water everywhere! When we asked management to fix it, we were told that it was a big problem but so they couldn't fix it (!?!?). Overall the whole hotel it is in dire need of an update as the lobby and breakfast area are looking shoddy at best.

Breakfast was possibly the worst I had during my 3 weeks in Japan - there was a large Japanese selection but none of it tasted good! Their western options were dismal - toast and jam only. They should worry about serving edible food rather than having such a varied selection...otherwise they need to get a chef that can cook.

We also thought that the level of services offered would be comparable to their sister hotel in Ueno but this was not the case. In Ueno, there was BBC World available and we weren't charged when we asked to print our boarding passes, at Shinsaibashi however there were only Japanese channels available and they charged us per page after they had printed out our boarding passes. Normally neither would be an issue but when you build a brand you need to be consistent in the services you offer in all your hotels.

There were positives, the location is great and there is a metro stop just around the corner. There are loads of places to eat in the area. The front desk also sold the excellent 2day Osaka Pass. Given the prime location the price is good but you get what you pay for.

Was this hotel awful? No, but given my high expectations of the Villa-Fontaine brand, it was certainly disappointing.

Stayed here for 2 nights in November.
Positives
+Location: A big PLUS, excellent, Shinsaibashi area, 7-10 walk to the nearest station. A 2 min walk to the shopping street.
+ Clean beds and bathroom
Negatives:
-Rooms: Extremely small, If 2 + size people would find it difficult to share the bed. (Apparently they do not have twin beds)
- No Wi-Fi technically in the rooms, but the Wi-Fi is available in the lobby
- Breakfast was OK
Tips: Lots of things to do around the Hotel.
Final thoughts: If you want a good located Hotel and do not spend too much time the hotel and are willing to manage on a small bed then this an excellent place to choose.

if you're looking for luxury, look elsewhere.
This hotel isnt prominent, but once you locate it, you'll find it's a gem. The location is superb. Cant rem the exit number (think 9 or 10) from shinsaibashi train station. a mere 3 min walk.
Hotel sits on shinsaibashi shopping street where food is readily available. there is also a 100yen shop on the street. (Daikoku). It is also a 10 mins walk to Dotomburi.

Room: small (expected of japanese hotels) but enough for 2. Clean and good room service.
Would stay here again. most definitely.
oh, there's Free daily breakfast too.

Clean, tiny and great location. We booked relax rooms which come with latex matress and pillow. A foot massage machine inside this tiny room.
No wardrobe provided in the room. Free breakfast with limited selection.

Take exit 1 from Shinsaibashi station and walk underground to North exit 8 which has escalator up to Shinsaibashi suji.

Will be back if they offered great rate as Nikko Hotel Shinsaibashi rate just about the same rate if you book 80 days in advance.
