“Another good hotel in the Umeda Area”
Reviewed December 6, 2009

After my two last outings in the Kansai Area , I decided to book a room in this hotel with a friend. The room's size is great by Japan standards, enough room space for your shopping bags. I used to stay at Granvia , which is always the best option, being close to the JR central station. Now, I'm a Kinki Hotel convert , if only the concourse way at Hankyu was not under construction during my stay , going to the hotel could have been a breeze. I like the separation of the toilet from the bathroom, which is great if you are travelling with a companion. Airconditioning was good, the single head pillow was a bit hard for me, I wish they could make it two soft ones. The duve' also serves as blanket, which is fine by me. What is great is the availability of filtered safe drinking water in the room. I wish they have a CNN channel in their TV program.
Food and bar choices is at its finest in the Higashidori lane. 24/7 stores are scattered around the hotel vicinity. The best attribute is the hotel rate , which is really top value. I would definitely go back to Kinki Hotel and would definitely bring with me loads of fabulous friends ! Can't wait to go back there again . Mata ne.

Wanted a hotel near to JR Line Station, and found this one constantly recommended. Omly drawback was lack of English, but great and very helpful staff made up for this. Rooms very small, but as a 'transit' hotel is really excellent. No breakfast but plenty of places around to eat. Its in the bar area, but the area is very safe and easy to stroll around. Not too cheap, but good value by Japanese hotel standards.

It's located in one of the night life area, a lot of bars and restaurants. The receptions are very helpful. One of the hotel reception helped us find Ba-Sashi (Horse Sashimi) in the area. The restaurant across the hotel is very friendly, if you like seafood. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk to JR and Subway.

We stayed in Hotel Kinki for our entire stay in Osaka, and I didn't regret booking this hotel.

The price is very reasonable. We stayed at a twin non-smoking Western-type room, and we had free internet (by LAN cable) inside the room, we had free coffee and tea, and we also had free hairbrushes and free razors. The bathroom and the toilet were separate (saves time when you're traveling with a companion), and both were very clean. We're both Asians with small frames, so the bathroom was right for us, although the bathtub may be a little small for large Westerners. But as we had stayed in a ryokan in Kyoto also, I would stay that the bathtub size is standard. The toilet was big though. For westerners, I suggest that you book double beds.

Service was great -- sheets and amenities were changed daily, and the front desk was open 24 hours, so you can call the staff any time if you have problems.

Location was excellent! It's in Umeda, very near lots of restaurants including the Shin-Umeda dining area, so you will never go hungry in the middle of the night. There's a convenience store right beside the building, and there's a 7-11 five minutes away by foot. It's also 10 minutes away by foot to Umeda station, and 15 minutes away by foot to JR Osaka station.

One thing though: the access map the website provides is confusing. If you're bringing heavy luggage and want to save time and effort, just take the taxi (Y660 from Hotel New Hankyu or Osaka station). Tell them to take you to the street between Hankyu Men's and Namco, or better yet, to Boatpier Umeda (this is nearer). Once between Hankyu Men's and Namco, you should see KFC and 7-eleven in front of you (as in the access map). Keep on going straight until you reach the intersection. Across the intersection, you should see a large building "Boatpier Umeda", and "Yoneyama pharmacy" in front of it. Cross the intersection. Hotel Kinki can be reached by turning right at the alley in front of Boatpier and right behind (beside?) Yoneyama pharmacy. This is the first alley right after the major street you crossed, and this alley has TILED FLOORS. Hotel Kinki is very near.

As for Hotel Kinki being a love hotel -- there is only one entrance (I checked that out), and the alley entrance is a staff entrance, and I've seen it, there's no other counter or vendo machine so I guess they've stopped being in that business.

We used this hotel as a base for our 2 weeks here in Japan, stayed at Kinki Hotel for 8 nights all together. If you are an independent traveller who just want a clean convenient hotel then this is a good choice. If you expect all kind of services then you will not be happy.

We like this hotel:
1) Clean and newer room, good size. We have 2 suitcases, 2 carry-ons, tripods and camera bags and still room to move around. Pillow is not most comfortable but at least the length of the bed is ok (my husband is 6 ft tall)
2) Good value for Osaka
3) Facilities: Tea and coffee kit in the room, hair dryer, coin operated laundry downstairs, microwave downstairs, only one computer downstairs but it is free and most of the time it is available.
4) Convenient location. (though hard to find initially, see below) Lots of restaurants, drug store and min-mart around the hotel and yet quiet at night. Subway is a short walk away and under cover. From the subway you can walk all the way to the JR station. It rained a couple of times during our stay and turned out to be handy to go underground.
5) There was one night all the non-smoking rooms are sold out so we had to move into a smoking room. I looked at some last minute deals elsewhere and still couldn't find the price matchable to this hotel, so we reluctantly moved into the smoking room, we were surprised as there was no smoke smell at all, just darker carpet.

A note of reminder : remember to print out a detailed map of their location. We have a Japanese friend picked us up from the airport, we then took the airport limousine bus, stopped near the Hilton hotel, since we have 2 suitcases and 2 carry-ons we decided to take a taxi rather than walk (under 10 min). Our friend doesn't know where the hotel is neither does the taxi driver even after looking at the map. He finally had to call the hotel. Once we got there we have no problem getting around.

All in all we are quite happy with this hotel.

It is undoubtedly value to money. The hotel sits in a very good location. Not far from JR station and really close to shopping centres. Although it is located in one of Osaka's downtown it is quiet and peaceful in the hotel. However, we had a problem about toilet and bathroom as we stayed in 4 person room with only one toilet. It is difficult to use hotel toilet near the reception too since there is only one toilet sharing for men and women. I would suggest to choose two rooms if you come with more than 3 persons
