We were looking for a kaiten sushi place, and we kind of stumbled upon this place. awesome sushi for 137yen per plate, no matter what kind of sushi is on it. If you have to make an order (rare since they are constantly refilling) they are quick to fill it.

Musashsi has two locations: one below Kyoto Station and the one reviewed here where Sanjo-dori "Ts" into Kawaramachi-dori. All plates are now 137 yen- no more color coding. I have eaten here a dozen or more times and Musashi never disappoints. Upstairs is a little quieter but I like the energy more downstairs where there is a steady banter between the sushi chefs, floor staff and customers. The chefs are constantly restocking the belt with an amazing variety of very good quality fish, particularly given the price for 2 pieces. You will find creative, delicious rolls interspersed among the fish. You can order from the chefs but the variety is so good it is almost more fun to just experiment. And they have Kirin on tap.

In Kyoto? In the downtown area? Possibly in the Sanjo arcade? Are you hungry? Want to eat something authentic, quick and easy? If you can answer "yes" to any or all of these questions then try Musashi Sushi.

OK, it's a flippant start to a review, but I could enthuse all day and well into the evening about this small conveyor belt sushi restaurant which stands on the Kawaramachi road close to the entrance to Sanjo shopping arcaed.

The restaurant has two floors and, as you walk in, a staff member will see how many there are in your group and direct you to a space either on the ground floor or upstairs. On the ground floor you sit directly at the conveyor belt, whilst upstairs you can either sit at the counter or in a small booth which nestles next to the conveyor.

Best bits about this place. Firstly the chance to watch amazingly skillful sushi chefs practise their art. Second, it's amazingly good value. When I was there in November 2007 a portion of sushi, a small plate with perhaps one or two morsels upon it, was 137 yen, Thirdly, the food is amazing. I have no idea what I ate and admittedly in certain situations I didn't want to know what I was eating. But a plethora of cooked fish, meat and vegetarian dishes goes around and you can just take what looks good to you. You can also order other dishes from the english language menu. Lastly, green tea, pickles and condiments are included in the price.

So, for quick, convenient and stylish food this is the place to go to in downtown Kyoto
