“Japanese style house”
Reviewed May 10, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We travelled a family of 5 (3 grown up kids).
My wife loved the house it was very homey,
we especially liked the living room area.
The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need and more.
We had there a lot of Japanese bowls and chcopstiks, we felt Japanese :-).
It was also very spacey and decorated with antique looking Japanese art.

The beedroom up stairs ,especially the second bedroom, was small and the beds were not very comfortable, the up stairs Japanese room was fine.
The stairs themselves were steep and narrow and you also need to watch your head...

The shower and bathtub were excellent the only problem in the bathroom was a very small sink and dim light.

The property was as described (houses 6 people just fine), good neighborhood (my son played football with the local kids :) ) , location was good , 5 min walk from metro , super market , not far from Giyon and we got to everywhere just fine.

I missed a personal touch from the owners (one of the reasons I rent apartments/houses and not hotels, for years now) , the contact through e-mails/massages was good but we never met the owners , no one greated us on arrival to the apartment and the registration was done at an office away from the property (from were we needed to take our luggage to the house ourselves).

Overall we enjoyed our stay (and Kyoto ,the city, is great) and recomend this property.

Liked best: The shower and the bathtub , the kitchen and living room
Liked least: The matresses were rough, lighting was dim and a small sink in bathroom, dangerous steps

תודה לך על תגובתך.
Sorry for not being able to meet you during your stay. I agree that it is an important detail that does make the difference with the hotels.
As for the stairs, you should have seen the original ones! This is the best we could do considering the constraints of an old Machiya. It is a choice and modern houses do not have such limitation, but then again, they also do not have the style and feel of an old house.

“Handsome renovated samurai residence, modern conveniences”
Reviewed November 16, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We loved the ambiance of the traditional setting, but the modern conveniences were important to us as older travelers. And this residence had both, Edo era design and craftsmanship, appointed with modern appliances and furniture, very comfortable for the four of us. The home is in a mature and quiet neighborhood, well served by public transit. It was a treat to spend the day touring the historical attractions as Kyoto has, and then come home to a residence imbued with a similar esthetic. Akiko was congenial in accommodating us with timely suggestions, to help us make the most of our stay. Highly recommended!
