This Hotel is in a very good location being almost opposite to the Train Station. We stayed here for just one night and found it to be comfortable clean and the staff were very helpful. There are cafe's and Restuarants close by, although we chose to eat outside of the hotel, there is a restaurant

We had a twin room on 6 floor and the view was nice. I imagine it would be even nicer on higher floors. The breakfast was included in our package and we enjoyed a great buffet breakfast on 13th floor with a great view of the city. There was ice and water available in the floor, which was convenient for a hot summer time. The room was very clean and neat, included all usuals and was spacious in Japanese scale. Instead of yukata, there was a nice night robe, very comfy to sleep with. The bed was so comfortable. We had a sound sleep all night and woke up rested and lively.

Room Tip: Single rooms in this hotel have station view and twin rooms are in the opposite side. Ask for higher...

Hotel was in an amazing location if arriving by train. It is about a 1-2 minute walk from the main train station and bus/subway from Kyoto. There are also a lot of bars, restaurants, and shops in the train station so it is very convenient. Most sights in Kyoto were accessed by bus so it was also convenient to catch the bus from the main train station.

The room was one of the bigger ones I stayed in on my Japan adventure. It had two twin beds but also 2 chairs and a table which seems to be a bit rarer when traveling on a budget. The hotel seemed very classy and wifi was available on every floor of the hotel which was nice.

I have to mention that one staff member was able to help us out of a jam and made a positive impact on my view of the hotel. We needed to book a hut on Mount Fuji but it seemed to be impossible to do in English so one of the staff members at the desk spent about 30 minutes making phone calls in Japanese and refused to quit until he got us what we wanted. Was very appreciative of this fact.

Hotel is a little bit dated but clean. We went there around end february to early march so it was still cold and staff said that they dont have air conditioning at that time just heat and it was warm inside the rooms. But the moment we opened the windows it was more comfortable.Place is just across the kyoto station so it was very convenient for us as we had easy access to transportation, also a lot of food choices beside the hotel at the basement of the mall. isetan mall is also just a couple of blocks away. staff are able to speak simple english and give us directions. Buffet breakfast is ok, but there is an option for a japanese breakfast which is better. Overall, good value for your money and I definitely would recommend the place.

The location is unbeatable across the street from the JR (Japan Rail) station. The area is relatively safe (as is most of Japan) and the views from the elevator are great. The rooms are decent in size and acceptably clean. The quality of the beds is far below a two star hotel in North America. Think of the cheapest mattress you can find with old school coils you sink into and crappy pillow. This was a recurring theme with G adventures hotels. If you are picky about beds you will want to avoid this place. If all you need is something to sleep on you won’t be bothered. I usually look forward to a nice comfy bed at hotels (one of the most important features when on business) but while it felt cheap I wasn’t sore the next day on this bed. The washrooms are fine and the toilets with the bum cleaner (jet sprays) that are so awesome in Japan. The rooms are dated but perfectly functional
While I didn’t pay directly for the room, it was on a G adventure tour (the worst tour company I have travelled with) so I’m sure it didn’t cost them much. It’s hard work to find hotels this mediocre in Japan but they managed to find a way throughout the entire tour.
If you get this place cheap go for it. The location is unbeatable and there’s free wireless internet. The lobby is also pretty nice and threes a place downstairs you can grab a coffee and snack quickly. I also used their dry cleaning /laundry service. It was more expensive than the average hotel of this quality.

The Hotel Keihan Kyoto offers clean rooms. They are a good size for Japan. It is right across from the Kyoto station. Coin laundry a few blocks away. Shopping centre attached to hotel. Good buffet brekky for 1600 yen. Quiet, wifi, pleasant staff.

As noted by others, this hotel is just across the street from Kyoto station. Arriving by Shinkansen, look for the East exit, very close to the Shinkansen tracks (make sure you don't get sucked into the immense shopping mall which is in the station on the other side). There is a tunnel under the street right at the East exit. Turn left immediately at the end of the tunnel for the hotel entrance.

Our room was on the small side, although it did not help that we had requested a triple, so they put a cot in the room (quite comfortable). Without it, it would be standard size. Sparkling clean, all the usual amenities etc

As for room selection, the person who suggested to ask for a room to the station side (or Kyoto Tower side; the Tower is right behind the station) must have been confused: on that side of the hotel, there are the elevators, no rooms. If you want a room with a view, ask for the East side; on the West side your view will be on the hotel next door.

Make sure you book the room with the breakfast, it is a lot cheaper than booked separately (at least on Expedia). There is a 'Japanese' and a 'Western' breakfast, but even the Western breakfast is about one-half Japanese. I skipped the scrambled eggs, sausages and toast altogether and gorged myself on the superb Japanese food (mostly with English labels).

Oh, and the breakfast is on the 13th floor, with amazing views of Kyoto.

We had reserved for one night but we liked the place so much, that we booked for another night and did a day trip to Nara.

Room Tip: East side has view of Kyoto city. West side has view of the another hotel.
