We have spent 8 fabulous days in Kyoto, staying in Kyoto Vacation House. It is a great place for those, who do not need the city busy life and hundreds of tourist. House is locanted 5 min.drive, or 20 min. walk from Kitayama subway station, where are plenty restaurants, bakeries and few food shops. We really loved the fact, the house is in rural area, away from all the touristic highlights. Using provided bikes we visited practicly the whole city. In approx 1,5 hour we biked even to Arashiyama area, or on the other side of city to visit Kiomizu-dera temple. Biking along the river takes approx 40 min. and we were right in the center of Kyoto. Place is close to train to go to Kurama, which is another great place to visit.
The flat was clean, and fully equiped, as shown on provided pictures.

When I arrived by train to Kyoto main station, I phoned Kenta who owns the holiday house and he kindly waited for me with a car at Kitayama subway station (direct line 16 minutes travel time from Kyoto main station, 290 yen one way or Kyoto subway one-day pass for 600 yen) and transferred all my baggage to the holiday house. The house is on a very quiet place (narrow street used occasionally by some car) in the outskirts of Kyoto but close to subway station and local train to Kurama and Hiei mountain areas. Mount Kurama is a special place, I recommend to visit it more times in a few days (details can be found here http://www.reiki.org/reikinews/22visits.htm and in a book of Jesicca Miller: Reiki's Birthplace, A Guide to Kurama Mountain, available on amazon). In order to get every day to the subway station or local train, Kenta kindly provided free of charge a bicycle that was very convenient. The house is well equipped with electric cooker, kettle, fridge, freezer, microwave, TV, excellent washing machine incl. dryer (powder provided) etc. There is possible to light the stove (wood available) and have real open fire in the room! If you are a pianist, there is also a real piano in your room you can play!! In the end of my stay, Kenta again very kindly arranged my transport with baggage by car to nearest subway station.
For shopping I used mainly convenient stores close to Kitayama subway station (Lawson, Fresco, 7-Eleven – it has also ATM for international Mastercard or Visa cards) that are open 24 hours every day (!) or Daimaru department store close to Shijo metro station in Kyoto centre (for real German rye bread) or a bit hidden supermarket at Kotochika shopping complex (if you need food like muesli, cheese etc. for a good price). Kotochika is open until 22 pm every day, located in the basement of Shijo metro station (just follow signs downstairs for the rest room, details here http://www.greentour-kyoto.net/kyoto/news/shopping-at-subway-shijo/).
Japanese restaurants are close to Kitayama subway station; European style buffet lunch or buffet dinner is available every day at Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa (next to Kawaramachi Catholic Church (Kyoto Diocese Cathedral)) at Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae subway station (lunch for 2600 or 2800 yen, dinner for 3100 or 3300 yen, details are here http://www.ishinhotels.com/kyoto-royal/en/restaurant/). Altogether I recommend the place for longer stay.
