It isnt too far up the hill to reach the park but the fact there is a climb I think puts some people off. You can walk up in 20-30 minutes casually, there are toilets at the top. Once at the top, it is amazing. The monkeys are very tame and the view is magnificent. I loved sitting on the bench, looking at the view and watching the monkeys run around.

Area is swarmed with monkeys, situated high on a hill. Please do beware the hike up is challenging, they weren’t kidding when they say its over 20 mins when going up. Claptraps cant make the journey up as the stairs will stop them.

It’s quite the climb up stairs and the hill, and took up more that the estimated 20 min (yes, I’m middle aged and out of shape). But getting to the top was well worth it.

We made the climb up the mountain because we wanted to see the monkeys and it was too early in the year for snow at the hot springs monkey park farther north in Japan. I really think that this is a better place to see the monkeys because the view is great any time of year and they seem to do a great job of taking care of the monkeys. They make the people get in a building with screen windows if they want to feed the monkeys, this keeps the monkeys from associating people with food so the monkeys mostly ignore people as they wander around the park. When we were there (late October) there were some very young monkeys playing and it was very entertaining.

We loved this place! I was a little nervous about the hike up the mountain, but after doing Fushimi Inari, this was NOTHING! :) We went fairly early on a Monday morning and the crowds weren't very heavy. We also were there during a "feeding ceremony" time which was hilarious. Don't miss that if you happen to be there at the right time. The views are beautiful, and the hike is really pretty. So worth it!
