Not going to lie. The climb is steep, but once you get up there you get to see a lot. We went in July so all the little ones were born. You can buy peanuts or bananas for a 100 yen. Best time would be an overcast day.

The 20-30 minute hike had 4 or 5 benches along the way. Do NOT take stroller!!!
Employees respectful of animals. Did NOT see slingshot mentioned in a post I read.
One of the highlights of Kyoto. There were baby monkeys everywhere. So cute.
The walk up the hill means slightly less tourists which is always a bonus.
Fun to feed the monkeys. Try and be there during feeding time so you can see them come out away from the screened area. You do need to walk quite a bit so bring good shoes.
Quite a walk uphill to get to this spot. Plenty of resting spots in between. Once you reach the top, you will be able to enjoy the mischievous monkeys in action. For a small price, you will be able to purchase snacks for the monkeys and watch them chomp away. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
This park is across the river with easy walking distance from the Bamboo Forest and Tenryuji Temple. The adult entry fee is 550 yen. After entering you begin a long 20 minute climb (30 minutes with small children) to the top of the mountain. Near the summit is a fun playground for kids with a super long sliding board!
On top are a plethora of snow monkeys. Late spring and summer is when they give birth so there are many cute baby monkeys with their moms. For 100 yen you can buy a small bag of cut apples or peanuts to feed them. Great place for kids of all ages!
