I love all Japanese food, but my husband is not so keen and asked if we could have pizza for dinner on one of the nights we were staying in Kyoto. I had a little walk up and down a few of the side streets around Shijo and found this little wine bar... offering a number of Italian & Spanish dishes (with a Japanese twist of course!) including pizza. You could choose "fluffy" or "thin crust" pizza base with a range of toppings. If pizza isn't your thing then there is a good selection of other fish, meat or salad dishes. We had caesar salad with possibly the most delicious prosciutto ham I've ever tasted and lamb chops with some Japanese interpretation of pesto. You rarely see lamb here so I was curious so see how this would turn out, at around 1300yen it was one of the most expensive items on the menu, but I was not disappointed.
Staff were super friendly and an English menu appeared out of nowhere (which saved me having to read out the whole menu to my husband. Result!). Fundamentally this is a bar serving food, not a restaurant, so the seating is designed for couples/trios. On the plus side the wine list was infinite.
