“Perfdectly Fine and Reasonable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

Spent 4 nights in a double room. Hotel is small/medium size mainly business style but also a number of tourists given good location. Rooms are standard Japanese business style, small with a plastic bathroom cube. Enough space, just, for 2 with medium baggage. Absolutely clean with all the bathroom "bits", a small fridge, TV with only all Japanese channels. No cupboard space and 4 hangers on the wall. Fine for our needs and price low to middle. Elsewhere we reserved twin rooms (they give more space at a modest extra cost) but recall that was not an option via booking site for this hotel but they may have them. Did not try Japanese only breakfast, which was a set Y1000 pp in the attached Chinese restaurant. Plenty of nearby corner shops eg 7-11 for bits and pieces of drinks/food. Staff could not be more helpful and managed to get across all we needed in English. Has free wi-fi and worked OK on my UK phone. About 70m from a direct subway to JR Kyoto station. Taxi was Y1100/1200 hotel to Kyoto station. Overall excellent location on a small side street and easy walk to some sites as well as the restaurant street on river (15mins) and to Gion and temples (25mins). Would not hesitate to use again.

Room Tip: If 2 travelling go for a twin

This was a semi-double room with the typical Japanese business hotel setup. Room was somewhat larger than other rooms we stayed in. It included a large TV, refrigerator, desk, clock, yukata, bath supplies and tea set. Room was very clean and all facilities worked well. No WiFi in the room, but staff supplied LAN cable.

Location is good - about a block from the Karasuma subway. Unfortunately, most of the main attractions in Kyoto require a bus ride. Staff was helpful and capable in English.

Rooms are tiny but clean. The hotel is affordable, not cheap. One will not find a cheap hotel in Kyoto. The location is perfect, just around the corner of the subway. Nice neighborhood with many restaurants. Actually you can walk to Gion in about 20 min.

Very comfortable and clean hotel, friendly staff and no issues, very accessible from the subway. I would happily stay here again when I next visit.

Things to note: there are at least 3 Garden Hotels in Kyoto, make sure you locate the correct one before you leave otherwise you could end up stuck for the night, oh and make sure you sign up for the Japanese breakfast. The western breakfast is a bit, well, bland...

Yes, my room was small but it was perfectly adequate, very clean, and I was very happy with it. The bathroom was cute and spotless. The staff at the hotel were very helpful. Some spoke English better than others but they were very willing to help. I didn't take the Japanese breakfast. Some days walked to the closest Starbucks (only 2 or 3 blocks away) or to a French bakery which was even closer. Hotel is pretty centrally located -- a fairly short taxi ride from Kyoto station. There is a subway station also close by. There are a couple of computers in the lobby which guests can use at no charge.

We stayed a night during Golden Week, using two single rooms. For less than ¥5,000 per room, this was an incredibly good value hotel. It doesn't win any prizes for design, but for value it's my top pick in Kyoto.

The rooms, while not new, were clean and comfortable, and bigger than many business hotel chains. Notable is that the entire hotel is non-smoking, very unusual in Japan, so the room had no residual smoke smell. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste...all provided. The rooms also have a refrigerator which guests are free to stock (great for longer stays). Bed is firm but not overly hard, pillows nice.

Front desk staff were polite and helpful. Location convenient. No complaints at all.

Room Tip: All rooms are non-smoking.

We stayed in this hotel for about a week. It's very close to the metro station and you can easily walk to the center. The staff were very polite and they could speak English, which is a very rare thing in Japan. We booked our room on the internet from abroad and had absolutely no problems.
