After a long day on the Shinkansen(bullet Train) we were looking forward to spending the next five days in Kyoto. Upon arriving from Kyoto Station we were greeted by a bellman who had perfect English. At the front desk, the staff were warm and very welcoming. A nice young woman showed us to our room(1109). Our first impression of the room was very good. Very clean bathroom and a flat screen TV. The bell woman showed us where everything was located and was still welcoming us. The room was a bit smaller than I imagined, but it had two double beds and kimono material for part of the wall. I then noticed that the carpet was dirty and stained. Being a clean freak I immediately took a disliking to it. But only our room was dirty the rest of the hotel, however, was spotless. The only other cons besides the dirty carpet I thought I might mention were,
a) the lobby Restaurant's menu was a little pricey but food was very good.
b) room service menu was small and expensive.
c) high Internet prices, 12 Dollars for 24 hours. (I'm not too keen on spending 12 dollars for internet.)
d) My friend and I were craving a midnight snack at 12:00 A.M, so we used the room's minibar. The Hotel charged us $23.00 for a can of coke and two(small) bags of crackers!(see picture for prices)
e) near an old palace but a 30 Minute walk to Gion(shopping district)

Overall Beautiful Hotel and excellent service but dirty carpet and chair.

This hotel is pure ZEN! We spent five days in this excellent hotel and were not once displeased with any aspect of it. The hotel was actually a value even given that Japan is an expensive country in the first place. We had a package that included a taxi from the station, daily breakfast and a lovely room next to the garden. Speaking of gardens the hotel had two extraordinary garden that seemed to be popular for events and weddings. The beds were so comfortable and could always manage to get a good nights sleep. The entire staff was friendly and helpful during the entire stay. The Italian Restaurant and The Grill were excellent place to just unwind after a long day of touring around the city. Actually the Italian restaurant was surprisingly excellent from a food stand point. When we left Kyoto we felt rejuvenated and so relaxed. I would really recommend this hotel to anyone. Enjoy!

Great room, nice shower room, very advanced toilet - be careful which button you press otherwise you could get a susprise. 3 restaurants in the hotel - tried them all and they were all good, if a bit expensive. (Italian, european/fusion and Japanese).
Sometimes had to wait for breakfast in the main restaurant, but no more than 5-10 mins max. Hotel right next door to Sanjusangen-do temple (1001 kannon statues), and with 3 or 4 other temples behind it or at the top of the street.
The concierge desk sells daily bus passes (500Y each) plus give you a bus map of the city (like a tube map) and the bus stop is right outside the hotel. No 100 bus takes you to the main temples and the philosophers walk, and is very packed each day, but there are plenty of other routes which take you all over the ciry, and we had no problem getting around. You get on the back of the bus and punch your ticket on the way out of the front of the bus. Announcements are in Japanese and English, as are the stop displays on the screen at the front of the bus. Kyoto is really well set up for tourists, so a good destination for your first trip to Japan.
Our favourite temples were the Kiyomizu, and the Nanni-ji. we went at the beginning of April, and arrived at the peak of the Cherry blossom season - spectacular. All hotel staff spoke reasonable english and were all very helpful. Got to the hotel using the MKShuttle service from Osaka airport, which was very efficient and easy to use. (their counter is on the same floor as you arrive (remember 1st floor in Japan is ground floor in the UK))
All in all, an excellent place to visit, and the hotel is great.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights & traveled there by the Shinkanse train from Tokyo whick took about 2 hrs & 40 min. The hotel is located less than a 5 min drive (800 yen)from the station it is situated approx 2 stops on the subway to the main part of the city. The subway is about a 5min walk from the hotel so everything is actually very close even if it might seem seculded when you look at a map ok Kyoto. Our stay at this hotel was truly an experience. The service is unbeleivable. Generally the service in Japan was fantastic but the staff at this hotel go out of their way. When we arrived we asked reception if they had any suggestions on what to do today & tomorrow, they adv that once we had dropped off our bags to see the concierge & they would be able to help. When we arrived at the concierge desk a 2 day itinerary was made up for us. They also provided us with a suggestion for dinner that night which was at a typical Japanese restaurant serving their Keisenki menu. (Yata)
The King Guest room we had was beautiful, very spacious & with a big bathroom.
We also got to view one of the 2 suits they have avaiable which is are very similar to a Japanese home. THey also have beautiful views of their immaculate gardens.
The breakfast was also a great meal. It is a bit price but we decided to splurge one morning & really enjoyed it.
I cant fault this hotel at all. There were no other suggestions either as the hotel offered us everything we needed. THey dont have a business centre but when we asked for use of the internet they brought out for us a laptop to use out on the lounges in the foyer which was a plesant service.
The Kiyomizudera Temple is about a 10 min walk from the hotel & a good start to get aquanted with Kyoto. There are little streets on the way back from the Temple & end up taking you to the main strip of Kyoto.
Take the time to check out the Nishiki markets and Pontocho st area. make sure you take a stroll at night (6-10pm) around Shinbashi & Shinmonzen st where you wil be certain to see a Geisha off to work. We were lucky to see 4 of them.
Truly a wonderful stay, we should have stayed another night for sure.

We arrived here from the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo where we had an excellent stay but this is a different game. I think the Regency brand is a bit below the Grand Hyatts, but everything (Except our room) was close to perfect.
Staff is very friendly, speaks good English and this is more of a holiday hotel than a business hotel they pay more attention to us average guests.
Location is a bit outside the center, but it make it very easy to visit the temples on this side of the city; we too cabs to travel to the main sites, but public transports are close by.
Japanese restaurant is excellent.
When you arrive at Kyoto station, go to the "Vista" hotel across the road, a free cab will bring you to the Hyatt.
We just had a problem with our room, we asked for a room where the 3 of us could stay with an extra bed for my 7 year old son. The only room they offer was on the ground floor; but in fact it was quite small and the ground floor is more of a kind of basement.

This hotel was a great stay. Rooms very comfortable with lovely big bathrooms and a luxuriously deep Japanese style bath. The beds were huge and very comfortable. A lot of thought has gone into the design of each room and I loved the attention to detail. The headboard was made from old Kimono silks and there are bespoke pieces of art decorating the room. The hotel also has free wifi in the lobby which was really welcome. I ate dinner one night and chose the 5 course set menu. It was by far the best meal I had in Japan. The concierge and the front desk staff were charming and very helpful. My only quibble was the extraordinarly expensive breakfast. At 3200JPY each morning, it was definetly over the top and no where near value for money. The location is opposite the Kyoto Museum and busses were readily available. Its a great location for walking to Gion, approx. 15 mins away. Highly recommended.
