We stayed 2 nights in the Hyatt Kyoto,

my main impression is that is seems they tried to be a park hyatt but maybe for some reason they are a regency.
the hotel is in a good location, the rooms are not very big, although we got a little bit bigger room with was very nice. the bathroom same story very clean and nice but not so big. for us no problem.
there are a couple of restaurants on site and we had a drink or a bite in all them but not a ful menu, our impression was very good!

you have to check different dates because price do vary at the hotel.

and Kyoto is a great destination for older travelers,

Room Tip: almost nog suites, but you want to be on the ground or first floor, not on a lower floor

This place is on the edge of town about 2km from the main train station, with little of interest in the immediate vicinity. As other reviews mention there're quite a number of buses running past the hotel to various parts of Kyoto and you can buy an unlimited day pass from the concierge for Y500 (individual trips start at Y220). We tried the bus option a couple of times, but found the buses were infrequent and often full, so ended up using taxis for most trips. While taxis aren't cheap (about Y700 for first 2 km) they're infinitely more comfortable and convenient (particularly if your time is limited) than buses, and Kyoto is quite a compact city, so most trips were well under Y2000. We saw no cafes or convenience stores nearby, so bring some snacks/drinks with you if you want to avoid the expensive (about Y3000) buffet breakfast , which wasn't included in our rate.
The rooms are what you'd expect from Hyatt, (clean, comfortable and quiet), however one serious gripe is the lack of English TV channels from this international chain. Despite following the lengthy instructions for the TV we could only find one channel that was in English about half the time; with even CNN and BBC being dubbed into Japanese.
The excellent staff here rate special mention.

This was a good Hotel in Kyoto; we stayed there after spending some time in a ryokan. A little bit far from the city center. The lobby layout had an interesting japanese flavor. Rooms were middle-sized and clean. Western style breakfast was good (better than what we got in 5-star hotel in Tokyo...). Reception was helpful. The concierge service was heterogeneous: terrible in one day and excelente in the other. A good western-style hotel in Kyoto; on the other hand, if you would agree to a bolder move, stay in a ryokan while in Kyoto.

This hotel is superlative in every respect. The exterior is low-key, set behind a grove of bamboo. The lobby, on the other hand, is spectacular: a high, airy space topped by large grids made of light-colored wood, the grids varying in pattern and height. The designer was SuperPotato, one of Asia’s hottest design firms.

We had a room on the garden (bottom) floor that looked onto a beautiful gravel-and-rock, Ryoan-ji-style garden. What a joy to come home to after a day of sight-seeing! Not sure, though, that all the rooms on the garden floor have a good view.

The hotel has three restaurants, all at least good. Our favorite, surprisingly, was the Italian restaurant, Trattoria Sette, which served a wicked pizza. The buffet breakfast, served in the Grill, was superb.

We’ve never had a better experience with a concierge desk. Not only did they make dinner reservations for every night of our 8-night stay (we like to eat), they provided us with a written summary, maps -- everything we needed.

The Hyatt Regency Kyoto isn’t cheap, but it’s worth it.

An absolute gem of a hotel. Really quiet and recommended for a thoroughly restful night’s sleep. We did ask for a quiet room and our request was confirmed at check-in.

This hotel’s décor is superb but unlike many others, this doesn’t stop once you’ve left the lobby: our room was graced with beautiful wood panels and very tasty fabric upholstery, inspiring calmness. In fact, the room we stayed in was in such good decorative order that if it wasn’t for a few minor dents in the otherwise immaculate furniture (and maybe the carpet), one would think it was redecorated in the past year. But there’s more: this is one of the rare hotels we’ve visited where every detail appears fine-tuned for maximum comfort of the guest. Let me give just one example: the springs that close the doors are carefully set to avoid them slamming (who hasn’t been awoken by slamming doors in hotels before?)

Service is also top notch: every staff member we’ve interacted with tried his/her best to be helpful and friendly.

The main reason I decided to write this review after many years of reading them here but always finding an excuse to not do mine is this: just after we checked in, my wife experienced a minor medical issue and had to be seen by a doctor. Within minutes of us calling the front desk, a front-desk manager Mr Tetsuya Nunoi, came to our room to assess the situation in person and within a few more minutes, we had an appointment arranged at a nearby hospital. The manager also had us accompanied by Mr Nakajima, one of the hotel’s front-desk staff who was very kindly on hand to assist with translations with the hospital’s staff. All this service was delivered as if it was absolutely natural and for no charge whatsoever.

In many years of travelling the world, we’ve very rarely experienced such pleasant and gracious hospitality; the care and pride the staff apply to their job here was visible throughout and made for a most memorable stay.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 night and we cant complain, it was a nice western style hotel in Kyoto, however I didn't give it 5 stars as compare to other places we have stayed we rate it average. The location is not very centric, so you need to spend aprox 15 min in taxi going to mayor sites downtown, there is not really much to go any see just by walking. The hotel decor and ambiance was a bit depressing to me as hotel in just 2 floors. Firstly we got room on the -1 level, but room was too dark and depressive, so we asked to be moved up to ground level at least, which was better. But in general rooms dont have too much light and bathroom set-up is very un-practical. Also in rooms there is a limited space for suitcase or cloth as wardrobes are very minimalistic. Next time I would probably stay in different location. Anyway - breakfast is very good and hotel has great wine and cigar bar downstairs.`

Room Tip: Top floor = ground level

The hotel is lovely, really chilled out. We had a king room which was really big and also had a massive bathroom. The staff were really helpful.
The hotel is a bit of a walk from the nearest subway station and is quite far from the main nightlife areas. It is right next to the Sanjusangen-do temple but otherwise not particularly near to any of the sights in Kyoto.
