My fourth visit to Kyoto and the best yet, thanks to this wonderful hotel. It was a family holiday, 18 of us across three generations and the hotel coped with all the different needs of the group. Other reviews have mentioned about the design which I believe was done by Super Potato, who have designed many other Hyatt properties in the region. A lot of Japanese hotels tend to be bland but not this one. Understated, refined and definitely very classy. The staff were fantastic, we saw the manager Mr Ken Yokoyama frequently; this is always a good sign of a well-run hotel. The concierge desk were staffed by very knowlegeable young people who knew the restaurants we had booked and could explain directions to the taxis. They also found us a charming live jazz bar with the improbable name of Hello Dolly! Other than breakfast, which was included in our room rates(and extremely good), we didn't eat at the hotel because there are too many good restaurants in and around Kyoto. My wife and I had a corner suite with a wonderful view into the garden, the bathroom had a huge wooden bath tub that was perfect to soak in after a long day walking around all the attractions this wonderful city had to offer. We'll be back!

Room Tip: We had a corner suite, 1102 which is on the same level as the lobby with a delightful view into the hotel's garden.

Kyoto is a lovely and very busy city.

The Hyatt Regency offers a welcome oasis of calm and perfection in this historic place. It is a beautifully designed hotel with equally nice rooms, well trained staff and excellent restaurants. I am full of praise as this hotel really does tick all the boxed.

Rooms: Beautiful, well designed, comfortable bed, large bathroom with separate toilet.

Restaurants: Excellent lunch buffet offering at the Grill. Very good service. Extremely good food. Bar: great atmosphere. Very good cocktails.

Gym: Modern and clean.

Lobby: Beautiful. Very attentive bell staff

Concierge: Fantastic, proactive, professional.

The staff at the Hyatt Regency , Kyoto , is an example of what true hospitality and service should entail. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted, the check-in was seamless, and the young man who took us to our room, "Sho" , was delightful. He took time to point out less well know points of interest and gave input on when to see them. The breakfast buffet is excellent. It s hearty enough that you could tour through lunch and plan on an early dinner. The Italian restaurant is also very good, We were given the choice of a larger room with no view, or a regular room with a small view. While room 1257 had no view, it was a great size and very comfortable. Get your walking shoes ready for all Kyoto has to offer and make your room reservation at the Hyatt!

My first experience of a hotel in Japan and it was nice experience for sure.
Loved the ambiance of this hotel, rooms smallish but practical and clean.
Can walk to most places in Kyoto if you enjoy walking.

Concierge helpful in pointing out a much cheaper bike rental place than what the hotel was charging.

What a wonderful introduction to the warm Japanese hospitality.

We were originally booked at the Hotel Aranvert in Kyoto for the last five nights of our vacation, and after a single night there, we were so grossly disappointed, we came sprinting over to the Hyatt Regency and we were not disappointed. While the hotel was a bit pricier than Hotel Aranvert, it was worth every penny.

The hotel decor is contemporary, with clean, spacious interiors. The room was well-sized, about average or slightly bigger than American standards. The service is exemplary, with great concierge service. The location is good for sightseeing, as it is conveniently located near a few of the major tourist spots in Kyoto, including Sanjusangendo Temple, but it's not quite as good for evenings, when we would typically go in search of restaurants and walk around the neighborhood. Instead, we took the bus over to Gion for our evenings. That said, the hotel is extremely convenient to several bus stops.

On a side note, visitors to Kyoto should definitely plan on the daily unlimited bus pass, as the metro system in Kyoto is essentially useless, while the bus system has very good coverage around the city.

Highly recommended.
