“Excellent comfortable hotel, with nice extras”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2014

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel, but wish we had stayed longer. Although it is not in a great area, it is convenient for Kyoto centre and station due to the subway station being right on its doorstep. The check-in process was quick and the staff very friendly with very good English (unusual in Japan). We had a deluxe double, and asked for a room on a high floor/away from the road given what some others had said about traffic noise. Our room was quite small, but tastefully decorated (the hotel only opened in October 2013) and very clean. The bed was comfortable and we were not disturbed by road noise or noise from the corridor/other rooms. The hotel offers a free welcome drink each evening, as well as having free coffee/tea in the bar area all day long. The onsen (hot spring bath) and sauna were excellent, though the hot spring bath was very hot! The only negative points we can think of are that the wifi speed could be better and the heating/air conditioning unit was quite noisy and took time to respond to the (quite difficult to understand) remote control. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Kyoto.

The place seemed to be pretty new when we stayed there, but it was good. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was yummy. The room was spacious (especially for Japan haha) and the Onsen was great! The only thing is I wish the onsen was open for longer hours during the day :(

The only bad thing about this hotel was the damn pillows, I have neck troubles and I knew when I felt the pillow that I was going to have a sore neck, but after one night I woke up with a neck so sore I couldn't move. And I couldn't move it for almost a week.

Apart from that the hotel was great!

We stayed at the Sakura Terrace Hotel in Kyoto during the busy last week of November 2013, which is the peak period to view the colours of the autumn foliage. We booked at short notice and paid US$160 per night, without breakfast, but it should be about half that during other periods.
The hotel opened in October 2013. It is conveniently located one subway stop south of Kyoto station, with the Kujo station exit right in front of the hotel entrance. Alternatively, it is a six minute walk from the east exit of Kyoto station.
The room is 18 sq metres, and has a decently sized attached bathroom/toilet. Comfortable bed and strong flow of hot water in the bathroom. Free wifi, fridge and hot water boiler in the room. Our room was just next to the lift, but there was no noise. Split unit aircon for cooling or heating, but, unfortunately, very limited English language TV. Free washing machine and dryer located on the 4th Floor. Bar and breakfast room on the ground floor. Pleasant English speaking staff at reception.
Overall, I would rate the hotel as a 4-star standard, even though it does not have any restaurant or room service within the hotel. (Visitors have lots of food options at the restaurants nearby the hotel or at Kyoto station.) We will definitely stay there again when we are next in Kyoto.

Room Tip: Choose a room that overlooks the car park, as it is away from the street. Free washing machine and...

This hotel is super convenient, with a sub way station located right in front of the door which is just 1 stop away from Kyoto station, so it's very easy to get around the city
The lobby looks cozy and nice, and the room is clean and warm, though a bit too warm that you need to turn on the air conditioner to make it cooler. Room is not big, but ok for a couple
The room we had is close by the street, so at night, there's a bit traffic noise
