Good for a quick visit to see all over Kyoto, helps understand the layout of the city and pick out landmarks

“Just ok. Nice observation spot.”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Visited with kids aged 12, 10, 9 and 3. They had fun but wouldn't have been upset if we missed this. Kids were disappointed they couldn't take the stairs up or down the tower. Parents enjoyed the good view.

The view is great and you can get your bearings around Kyoto by visiting. Some popular sights are listed so you can find them on the free telescopes at the top.

If you visit the Tourist Information Center in Kyoto Station before visiting the tower, they will give you tickets to the tower at a slight discount per person.

There is a large shop of souvenirs at the bottom of the tower which was nice.

We actually spent ages up here looking all around Kyoto when we first arrived...you can see different attractions (that we later visited up close) through the binoculars. There are some nice shops down (where you get the lift up to the observation deck) where you can get Japanese sweets etc.

“Truly Rewarding!”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

We decided on making Kyoto Tower our last destination in the morning before departing from Kyoto to Osaka as we wanted to visit other historical places and temples first. The tower gives a really clear and detailed view on places around it. As we have already been to those historical tourist places, we would have known which direction they are and what structure would they represent. Thus, we thought that would be an advantage of visiting the tower last, after we've visited other places which can be seen as miniatures from the tower, to get a better understanding and geographical picture of the city kyoto.

Kyoto Tower also serves as a clear marker for tourists and locals to know their whereabouts and directions. As our hotel is just located beside the tower, to find our way back to our hotel was easy as we just need to go in the direction of the tower, which can be seen almost everywhere in Kyoto. The view of the entire city was truly rewarding. There were free powerful binoculars on the deck which enables one to have a closer look on various interesting and meaningful places in Kyoto. Staff there were undoubtedly helpful and friendly too. One of them even thoughtfully showed us the direction of Osaka and under clear conditions, Osaka city can be viewed from Kyoto Tower. We interestingly followed a hot-air balloon in the sky which can be seen clearly from the tower.

We would very much recommend this attraction to all visitors to Kyoto. Enjoy the panoramic view, dear tourists!

“A pit stop out of your day”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

This tower gives a very nice view of Kyoto and is worth a stop as it is right by the train station. It only takes about 20 minutes out of your day.
I think it is worth stopping by for a looks, the binoculars are free to use.
There are cool wacky mirrors on the way out.
