Lots of small shops, lots to see and eat. A bit of a trek to get here but worth it. Only when in day time so can’t comment in the evening.

In the first week of the new year there were lots of Japanese still on holidays but there were so many food options and still so picturesque.

Walking up to Kiyomizu-Dera on this steep bustling overwhelmingly crowded street for perhaps the fifteenth time, once again rudeness, uncharacteristic anywhere else in Japan is blatantly displayed. Shops have individuals providing samples of a delightfully light and flavorful, Nama Yatsuhashi 八橋, to passersby. Two gaijin (non-Japanese) waited patiently as samples and eager discussion of the products were provided to a Japanese couple. When the gaijin then stepped up, the tray of samples was withdrawn. When a sample was politely requested, the individual broke some sembei, hard cracker like Izutsu yatsuhashi, and offered it out of his hands...not on a tray. When questioned, the shop person appeared surprised but said the soft treat (sitting on the tray) was not available. When he was told it was available for Japanese, he reluctantly retrieved the tray and provided the sample.

Stretching from outside the Kiyomizu-Dera Temple to Gojazaka Street, this is the typical touristy street that one would expect outside a top attraction. There are plenty of souvenir shops lining both sides of the street. The prices are.... well.... touristy prices! You can get cheaper souvenirs elsewhere in the city such as Nishiki Market.
