Owner description: Arashiyama is a small town on the Oi River. Its moon-crossing bridge, Togetsu-kyo, is a beautiful, much-beloved wooden structure. Arishiyama also has Tenryu-ji temple, one of the 14 World Heritage Sites in Kyoto.

Need probably half day to walk the whole area. The bamboo forest is just amazing, can spend hours to get the perfect picture there. Whole area is touristic and might require quite some walking.

Finding yourself in the bamboo path in Arashiyama has been one of the best moments of our trip to Japan. It's a very magic and unique place, and very recommended if you plan to visit the Kyoto area.
Tenryuji Temple, just near the Bamboo groove, is a great place to visit too ;)

Wasn't expecting such a dramatically huge bamboo forest. So was taken aback by the beauty and serenity of it all. Looks like a painting or sketch if you squint slightly. Enjoyed a peaceful little stroll out of the cities hustle and bustle. All my photos came out like postcards.

February is still misty and cold, and maybe that's why not too any people visiting arashimaya. It probably would be more vivid, and resplendent in spring summer and even autumn when plants and trees and flowers are on full bloom. Nonetheless winter has its beauty in spite of the bare trees and brown leaves. The zen-like serenity along the many temples and shrines, and especially the bamboo grove (smaller than expected) is quite an experience. The whole area is very walkable, and easy to spend a day wandering about taking in the sights and sitting at a tea house enjoying tea or a meal.

Walked by myself in this mysterious bamboo forest for hours, barely saw anyone else, climbed to the top of the mountain to get some beautiful shots of the river below, then made my way back down to go visit the Monkey Park.

One of the most memorable places I have been, an absolute delight.
