Owner description: Arashiyama is a small town on the Oi River. Its moon-crossing bridge, Togetsu-kyo, is a beautiful, much-beloved wooden structure. Arishiyama also has Tenryu-ji temple, one of the 14 World Heritage Sites in Kyoto.

“Beautiful any time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

This neighbourhood is still small and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. It can get quite full of tourists, though, maybe this is why I enjoyed it more at night, when it's quieter. It is full of narrow streets and hidden surprises. Day or night, spring or autumn, it's beautiful any time. I also enjoy getting there with the Hankyu line, because the station is very charming too.

“Well worth the effort to get there”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

Beautiful and worth the 15 minutes in a taxi to travel there. During school holidays, it can get extremely busy in near by eateries, but be patient as the local fare is wonderful, and the experience is light years away from the typical city hussle and bussle of Japan.

“Beautiful place away from the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

We had a Japan Rail pass so getting to Arashiyama was a breeze, with no need to pay extra train fees. Woohoo! It was winter so the weather was a little chilly and windy, especially for someone born and bred in the tropics, but the walk through the bamboo groves was beautiful. I loved how they tower above your head and it is really peaceful and serene. There is a multitude of temples, shrines and gardens within the area and we checked out one or two. Can't remember the names, though. We only stayed half a day as we wanted to check out some other places in Kyoto city. I can imagine wandering around the area for a whole day and if time allows you to, please do. :)

The sights are incredible and absolutely beautiful. Try to go to the Bamboo Forrest on a weekday to avoid body to body contact in a huge crowd.

“What's a lovely place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

What's a lovely place to visit, and it would be perfect during the fall time. You can enjoy a walk across the bridge. You can take the train to enjoy the river gorge, about 30 minutes or rafting during summer time. It is very romantic route and well recommended.

There is a train diorama close to the JR station, where you kid can enjoy and have a chance to control the JR train. (Control is real from the real train), we had a fun time here.

The town is small and lovely, try the homemade tofu; it is wonderful.
