Owner description: Arashiyama is a small town on the Oi River. Its moon-crossing bridge, Togetsu-kyo, is a beautiful, much-beloved wooden structure. Arishiyama also has Tenryu-ji temple, one of the 14 World Heritage Sites in Kyoto.

“Stroll through the bamboo forest.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

It was a nice walk through the bamboo forest, and if you have time, there are endless temples to visit around the area as well. This wouldn't be at the top of my list to do in Kyoto, and I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but I am glad I saw it.

“Get there early”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012 via mobile

I intentionally woke up early for this. It's best enjoyed without the crowd. The iconic river the train ride and the bamboo alley makes this place a must visit if you are in kyoto.

It's less touristy than the kyoto city and very enjoyable. Buy a bento and sit by the river for your breakfast.

“A bit out of the way but worth the trek”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

Bamboo forest and the scenic "romantic train" were definite highlights. As was taking the adorable Keifuku single-car tram to get here after visiting the Golden Pavilion and Ryoanji in northern Kyoto.

“Amazing, a must see!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012 via mobile

A fantastic place to vist so much to see! Hiring bikes is a must @ 1000 yen a day, otherwise be prepared for a lot of walking. When riding it is best to steer clear of man roads as can be crazy and the little back streets are really easy to ride just be careful of cars as not much room! Bamboo forest is really good and so is the monkey park. The climb up the maintain too see the monkeys is tough but the view is totally worth it! All temples are really good but lots of people!

“Nice scenary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

Nice area to visit. Lots of nice things to see. Nice restaurants also. Be prepared to pay for some of the fine art, but they are only sold there, so treasure them if you get one. Be sure to get the foot Hot tub (Onsen) right behind the local train station (0n the main street) and don't forget to take your souvenier towel, once you wipe your feet dry. If you go into the bamboo forest, be sure to bring bug spray
