Late autumn time being there. A beautiful and peaceful place to stay. Can enjoy nice red maple leaves and silence atmosphere. Suggest to arrange at least 3 hours and wear comfortable shoes to take a walk within it. The view up to the hill is great, as well as the garden. Could try to enjoy tea (Japanese mocha) at the main building. The trail and the viewing path takes about 20-30 min to browse. However, it is worthy to take a slow and cozy walk to see and enjoy the detail. The building and garden there have exhibit the detail and beauty of Japanese culture. It is a good place to let the mind keeping relief and cleansing. The other temples beside there also quite interesting. Every temple has their own stories and history.

Ohara is a bit of a bus ride out from Kyoto but well worth the effort. From the bus stop just follow the crowds to the Sanzenin.. It is one of the picture postcard sights of Japan however, the extortionately expensive entrance fee does not justify the experience for me. Sure, it has beautiful rock and moss gardens and is at its best in Autumn, but the sheer volume of people pushing their way through it kind of ruins the atmosphere.it's the most crowded temple I ever been to by far in Kyoto and frankly, not one I'd like to repeat.

Beautiful zen garden. We came late, just one hour before closing so did not have as much time as we wanted but the good side is that there were just few pepople left so we could at least make nice pictures.

What a romantic place! It was a pleasure to spend a few hours there. We took a tour of the temples and it made a huge impression on us. Great location! You can not forget about the gardens! We highly recommend everyone to go there while at the same time admire the charms of Japan in one place

It took us about 1 hour or so to get there from Gion area (bus 17). The regular day pass (¥600) doesn’t cover this route, so you need to pay extra fees. The temple is so peaceful and the gardens are gorgeous. Not many tourists, most visitors are locals. Very aesthetic experience.
