“Cool Beans”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

Morpho Cafe has a really cool vibe and is a popular destination for those in the vegan-know. It's not tucked away by any stretch, located on a long, main road full of sheltered shop fronts, however it is potentially a decent trek if going on foot.

Deliciously authentic, home crafted vegan food is what makes this place worth visiting, together with the friendly but nonintrusive service and organic wine list. The menu is fairly typical with various burger/cutlet settos and plates, but the quality is high and the cuisine wholesome.

There is somewhat of a student/hippy vibe to the decor and layout, which is by no means a bad thing! Various cakes and treats are available by the counter for purchase, although their popularity may well mean that the choices are narrow at the end of an evening.

The cafe is located 7 blocks up from Nijo Castle (towards Kamigyo Ward), just look out for the quirky, slatted wooden porch and facia.

“Great Vegan Restaurant in Kyoto”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

We loved this vegan restaurant. The green curry, taco rice, vegan plate, the "hamburg steak" plate, the chocolate cake, the soymilk hot chocolate and soymilk chai are all delicious. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We have three children (11, 14 and 19) with varying tastes and they all loved this restaurant.

“Fantastic vegan cafe in Kyoto”
Reviewed November 23, 2013 via mobile

Lovely vegan cafe - serves lunch & dinner (open till late) Morpho has an english menu with a variety of vegan dishes from vegan cutlets & burgers to pasta. They also have a great dessert & drinks menu complete with organic wine. Staff is friendly and helpful to non-Japanese speakers. The alcoholic sodas are strong!

Cute natural wood motifs, quiet despite being on a main road - easy to find on Horikawa St in Kyoto. Look for their cute signage out the front then proceed through second interior door.
