While it is under restoration, it is still a cool place to visit. We sat in on a Buddhist service for a short while, which I love to do when I can, and the grounds are beautiful. It's probably breathtaking in the spring and fall!

An imposing wooden gate stands just off the street, but the main building was under wraps. Renovation is still under way. We were able to find a way to a newly constructed hall at the back where a ceremony/ worship service was taking place. After a short stroll around the outer grounds we found several interesting timber buildings also worthy of a few photos. Lots of places to explore and still worth a visit.

Most everything is covered up right now. If you're tired or hot, it is a long walk up many stairs to see a side temple and the big bell. Note that the big bell is far right up another set of stairs.

Supposedly has the biggest gate and biggest bell in Japan. Yes, main temple is completely under construction. The gate and bell (and the pavilion encasing the bell) and impressive. Good to be able to get close to the architecture and see the design. Some amazing cherry blossoms in the area, and the smaller buildings and paths in the back were picturesque. Would imagine they might look great during height of autumn since most of the trees were maple. Following the small path to the right of the bell will enable you to see a cemetery. Can easily explore much of the complex without having to pay a ticket price.

Beautiful temple grounds! Walk up to the top if you can, the grounds of the temple are extensive and lovely. Don't miss the hallway which sounds like birds singing when you walk on the wooden floors. The renovation work looks amazing. Can hardly wait to see it finished! The gate is fantastic! While there, we had a chance to enjoy the Sakura in Maruyama Park which was just next door.
