Serene temple superbly integrated into the surrounding nature and mountainside. The way that the temple flows in harmony with the trees beautifully maintained gardens was paricularly striking. It was also away from the crowds, making a more spiritual experience personally that some of the other temples. Excellent way to start the path of philosophy walk which is around the corner.

This place was my favourite in Kyoto. There were very few tourists here. Most of the crowd consisted of Japanese people. They had the best autumn foliage of anywhere I visited in Kyoto, with such vivid colours. The lake in the centre of the garden was beautiful. Great place for photo opportunities.

This was absolutely my favorite temple in Kyoto. You basically took your shoes off and stepped into another world. It was so peaceful and calm there and SO beautiful. Just absolutely gorgeous. At the top there was a pagoda that gave you a view of the entire city of Kyoto as well and a sign with some locations of big events that go in Kyoto so that was interesting as well. It was just all so wonderful. And just hidden out there along the philosopher's path. It was definitely more dead than usual due to the season I was there during which was summer but I think it's still less known than for example Kinkakuji Temple and definitely 1000x more worth the trip and the time!

It is a very beautiful and peaceful place. It combines attractive natural scenery with ancient historical architecture. Although it's a bit far from the city, it's worth going! Inside the temple, it's not allow to take picture but other area in the park is okay. Nothing better than sitting down to feel the Zen with a cup of tea inside the courtyard! The art pieces and sculptures inside are delicate too.

We stumbled upon this one along the Philosophers Walk. It was so quiet and peaceful, much less tourists than the more famous ones. The wood work and interconnected walkways are magic. Inside the temples were also extremely beautiful and detailed. Highly recommend!!
