“Best Autumn Leaves View In Kyoto”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2012

We visited it in the morning on Sunday, 2 Dec 2012. Took more than 500 shots of the gardens. It is one of the best autumn leaves viewing locations in Kyoto. The maple trees with their red or orange leaves were incredible. Spent about 2 hours absorbing the atmosphere and taking photos in the gardens.
It is a must see and we will return again in Spring for the 'Sakura' viewing. The 'Philosopher's Path' is between Eikan-do and the Silver Pavilion, another must experience/see.

“fantastic autumn veiw”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

Near the path of philosophy, we turn into Eikan-do shrine. What beautiful gardens! I think our timing was perfect for the autumn leaves veiwing. The red, orange, yellow leaves juxtaposed & compement each other. Many great photo opportunities! love it!

“Lovely visit on November 25”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

We were here as the fall color peaked and enjoyed overwhelming reds and yellows, making the temples seem secondary. For juxtaposition of lovely structures with beautiful color interspersed with green conifers, however, a photographer might find other temple areas enticing and much less pricey, too. But if you are patient, you will find it here. Sit down and look around until you find that special scene then wait until there is a gap in the flow of tourists and you will discover a photographer's dream. See statue photo.

“A beautiful place in Kyoto”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

The building and the trees were very beautiful and peaceful in the autumn. The red and yellowish leaves, the ponds and duckling. Everything was so nice. I highly recommend this place.

“The smirking Amida”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

Ran into this temple by accident while riding through Kyoto. And I'm very glad I did. It's a beautiful and huge temple where you get to explore at a leisurely pace. There's a sense of tranquillity here that you won't find at the Pavilions.

This is the place to soak in more of the Japanese old era and get the sense of how the more holy of the holy lived.
