“Akane-an is an excellent guest house for independent travelers who don't mind an inability to move in the kitchen.”
Reviewed December 1, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

Great character and great location, except that a taxi cannot get to the door. Nice bath an garden view.; comfortable linen. Very responsive and helpful staff. Leave yourself a couple of hours to figure out all the gadgets!

Thank you very much for your feedback! Each of our machiya has a different atmosphere about them, so we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Akane-an. One unique aspect about traditional Japanese machiya is that they can be found hidden down the smallest pathways, or nestled behind larger, more modern buildings. Sometimes, a taxi may not be able to drive right up to the machiya’s doorway, but this special character is what makes these traditional townhouses so unique.
Our staff members are always willing to help out our guests in any way, whether it be about the property’s WiFi, finding your way to the machiya, or making a reservation at a restaurant. So please don’t hesitate to ask any of our staff members for assistance!
We hope you choose to stay at one of our machiya again!

The Machiya Residence Inn Staff

“Great location and really nice house”
Reviewed November 8, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Nice location near sanjo covert alley, they are restaurants opened late, supermarket and bakery. A bit far from JR shinjo station (15 min) but for Kyoto size it's nothing.
It's a lovely house fully fournished evrything needed for the stay is offered from tea, cofee, bath products, towel etc.
Good wifi connection.
We were 4. The occidental room upstairs is big and pleasant. The japanese one downstair is the saloon with futon but it can be isolated easily by closing the doors so others don't have to step into the room :) You have a nice view on the garden from there.

A bit tricky to find but just ask the neighbours they are friendly and helpfull.

Thanks a lot for this one week stay.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are glad to have made your one-week stay at Akane-an enjoyable! We take pride in providing our guests with the experience of a traditional Japanese house with the comforts of a modern home. The location of this particular Machiya is quite convenient with many local supermarkets, shops, and restaurants.
And, although it is located in the central part of Kyoto, this Machiya is indeed tucked away from the busy city-life to provide guests with a quiet, and tranquil place to rest! We will keep your feedback in mind and be sure to inform future guests with a little bit more specific directions as to how to arrive at Akane-an.
We hope that you will stay with us again and look forward to your next visit to Kyoto!
