“Big room, small bathroom!”

Good hotel and I disagree with many of the reviews about lack of english and no wifi. The hotel has obviously paid attention to trip advisor as they have wifi and the front desk offered good help in basic english. Washing facilities are easy to use. Very handy to ATM machine, bus stops for all the sites of Kyoto. Good value for money I would stay again.

We chose this hotel for the location. At the beginning of April we were only in Kyoto for two days so we wanted to get the maximum out of it without travelling too much (between the hotel/station and sightseeing spots). The Court Hotel is a 10min bus ride (bus number 50 that leaves from the Kyoto bus station), you can purchase a daily buscard for 500 yen (very cheap! One way with the bus is 250 yen more or less so the daily pas is perfect!). This hotel is perfect if you do not plan to spend a lot of time in your room (who would? There is so much to see in Kyoto). The room we had was clean, medium size, we had two single beds which were very comfortable, they gave us two yukata's (summer version of the kimono) and we used this to sleep in. Breakfast was served between 7 and 10 and was ok (not more than ok). Don't expect a Luxurious breakfast, it was ok. The hotel staff speak minimum English so make sure you have a translate app on your phone (not a must but it helped). Overall it was a good hotel, not excellent.

We stayed at this hotel for one night, in a double bed room (2 beds, a grade above the twin bed room) and it turned out to be the saving grace. Glad to leave.
Not for any other reason - except that we felt claustrophobic and cramped- 2 adults and a infant.

The rooms were clean but real tiny, beds comfy, bathroom was elevated a foot above the floor, you had to climb into a pod - tight space within, hard to turnaround, good water pressure and clean. Shower head was set around 5 feet 5 inches.. you couldn't move this up or down without having to detach from the holder and hold the sprayer in your hands

Maybe the price we paid, is what made all of this an issue for us - we booked last minute before a holiday weekend (Mar 21-23) and the rooms ended up being USD294 - given that there was nothing available (for not fault of anyone) we booked this hotel as we really wanted to be in Kyoto that weekend. We booked through Japanican website. No other way to put this - we felt ripped off as we were overcharged.

The reception staff was courteous and spoke enough English to help through check-in/out process.
Breakfast was ok - nothing to write about. Not much by way of Western choices.

I would not come back again. Besides feeling like the hotel preyed on last minute travelers to quote a price not worthy of the experience, I would also have to say it IS a free market and no one compelled us to sign up for this experience.

If you are traveling alone or backpacking through - and pay for a room at this hotel less than 100-150 USD - it would be okay. I would still think you could do better in looking around - rather than settle for this like we had to. The overall feel of this hotel is that of an Inn - this was not evident in the pictures.

Court Hotel Shijo wasn't my first choice, but because we had a last minute adjustment of dates, the original places I wanted to book were fully booked out. And we didn't want to stay in a $3-400 a night hotel or ryokan so we turned to somewhere more affordable.

Court Hotel Shijo is functional and pleasant, but the location is a little far off from the main Gion action. It's about 3 bus stops away from the Shijo-Kawaramachi stop (4 from Gion), coupled with the infamous Shijo traffic jam... sometimes it just takes pretty long to get back to the hotel after a full day of sightseeing.

The room we were given faced the dreary building next to it - which means no views, and no sunlight. The bathroom was small and functional, but being Asians we could still fit in it just fine... but for bigger sized folks, we sincerely suggest that you should stay elsewhere.

You'll get the usual Japanese hotel amenities like heating, Yukatas, razors, hair dryer, toothbrushes and an unusually bouncy bed for your stay - all in all, it's not bad, but it's not fantastic either.

However, if you could get the rooms with a view (we should've requested to change the room but didn't) and it should be a much better stay.

Room Tip: Insist on a room NOT facing the buildings beside the hotel!

even a short time we have been in kyoto, court hotel in Kyoto was most impress in our trip. the room is bigger than the other cities we have been, more modern and also good faclities. the staff was kind and heppfull. the problem is maybe the same for tourists that travel to Japan that dont know abou6 electric 110 volt. our epectronics belonging cannot be charged or work. thwt assisted us to chare it and also in the room has a reading lamp with a usb port. we can use it for charging too.

the hotel location is easy to reach public transportation to access to tourist attiaction. so if we have another chance we would come back to this hotel and this city again

We stayed there at the end of April, we had more things we disliked: the bathroom was really small, looked more like a claustrophobic toilet capsule that you would place on a small space shuttle... Stuff spoke almost no English... No WiFi.
Hotel was reasonably clean however the building was looking quite old and it was rather poorly maintained. Would definitely not choose it again.

We stayed at Court Hotel Shijo for four days in August. It was a nice hotel, very well located to easily reach all attractions by public transportation. However, first it was difficult to find and then the hotel's staff wouldn't speak much English which wasn't helpful at all. It was difficult to get basic information from them.

The room was very good. The beds were very comfy and the air conditioning was great after a long day wondering around Kyoto. However, they wouldn't offer wifi connection which is something you expect from a hotel of this category. I remember there were different guests complaining about this matter as you get to have wifi connection in all hotels of this category or even youth hostels without forgetting about the price. Regarding breakfast, there was a buffet breakfast available after paying for it. Taking into account the price of the room, breakfast should be included.
