“Brand new and absolutely awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

We spontaneously booked a night before we came to Kyoto and we had the best time at Piece Hostel! Enormously friendly staff, very happy to help out in any situation - was it a power adapter we desperately needed to charge our netbook or just to fix any wifi issues. By the way, fast internet and unbelievable three brand new iMacs in the lounge, free to use for everybody!!
The location is unbeatable and absolutely easy to find (form Kyoto Train Station take the main exit on the South, turn left and follow the the building until you find yourself at an intersection; you want to follow in the direction where you came from, but on the other side of the street - Hachijo Dori - so you have to use two pedestrian crossings, as far as I can remember you can't just go diagonal; after not even 100 meters you will find an indeed tiny little narrow road on your right hand side, which will lead you another 100 meters just to the front door of Piece Hostel).
We had a double room and the bed was one of the most comfortable we slept in on our whole journey. The room and the whole hostel was very clean. This is probably very important as there are no in suite bathrooms, only shared ones. All of them were very clean and absolutely modern - showers and toilets!

Good location near Kyoto station with its transport, restaurants, shops, international ATMs and more. A bit tricky to find though. The small lane on which the hostel is located is easily missed since it's really narrow and twists at its mouth.

The hostel is ultramodern and brand new with the best shower facilities I've encountered in a hostel anywhere. Dorms and beds are good. There is a very pleasant lounge that includes a bar. Staff are nice.

The only negative I have to say is that the concrete floors that run throughout the premises are very Cold and you really need slippers.

We loved our stay at Piece Hostel! Full of charm and design.
We stood there for 2 nights on a Double Room with shared bathroom and was great. Really close to Kyoto station.
The rooms are a little bit small, but really clean and the bed was comfortable.
The staff there is AMAZING, really helpfull and they speak english (rare in Japan!).
You have free coffee and tea all day long.
Great wi-fi connection and computers available.
Was a great experience! :)

Lobby was spacious and cosy, it was a great place to hangout. Location is excellent and near to the main Kyoto Station. Toilet, shower room are clean with A+ facilities. All staffs are English speaking and 2 of them able to speak Mandrin, hence it is convenient for me. Did not have a chance to try its bar because the price of beer there are more expensive. It would be great if the price of the beer can match the nearby stores.

The hostel was just open at the beginning of April this year, and everything run well. The facility is clean, the bed is comfortable, the communal space in the first floor is spacious, wifi is available, the breakfast is free. The staff is friendly, very helpful and informative. Only one thing I wish they could improve later is the space to put your staff in the room, I wish they had shelves. My experience staying here was very satisfying. All the best for the staff, especially for Yuka and Kaz.

This hostel deserves full recognition for the fabulous environment they have created. Staying here was a fantastic experience. The staff is second to none and everyone goes above and beyond to help you with whatever you need, travel advice, insider tips and more. The dorms are spacious and have unbelievably comfortable beds. The free breakfast is also unique in Kyoto and the free tea and coffee all day is a lovely touch. Wifi is available on all floors with a great connection, the showers are powerful and hot and everything is gleaming and perfectly clean. There is simply not a single negative thing I could say about this hostel. I wish them all the success that they deserve and thank them again for a wonderful stay and a fantastic experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 18 bed dorm but if you book earlier you could get a more private room if you so wis...

The piece hostel is tucked away about a 5 minute walk away from main JR station in Kyoto. The directions provided by the hostel are excellent, but you might want to check your route on street view before setting off because you will probably think you've taken wrong turn somewhere. We walked to the hostel after dark but felt safe during the walk. No issues there.

The common areas are of a very high quality, but not that large considering the size of the hostel. We counted 16 double rooms plus dorms on each floor (2, 3 and 4). With 12 showers (6 male, 6 female) I suspect during full occupancy this may become a problem. I should point out that we had no problems when we stayed. These showers are all located on the first (ground) floor near the reception and communal areas.

There were no bathroom facilities in our room, and two wash areas with toilets on our floor (one male, one female). There are no doors however seperating these areas from the main corridor. So, and I don't mean to sound crude, there's only the toilet cubicle door between you doing your thing and the corridor.

The rooms are small in size, but are clean. The concrete feature wall and polished floor might not be to everyone's taste but I liked it.

The big issue though, is that the rooms have no storage. There's a sink, a bed and two metal hangers. And a bin. No shelves.

So if you're OK living out of a bag then that's fine but if you're traveling around in pairs, and you have any amount of luggage then you might get a little frustrated.

We arrived shortly after the hostel opened so perhaps some of these issues will be rectified.

Staff we're excellent.
