Santiago Guesthouse Kyoto

the guesthouse has a good location,10min walk from kiyumizo-gojo station.as the name shows you,it's not a Japanese style hostel .the atmosphere, music, them and breakfast are completely modern.I do prefer the more japanese place to stay.
the hostel is clean specially in the evenings when you come back after a long walk.but not that much clean when you want to take a shower in the morning!
the rooms are 12beds and it was completely full when I was there.I stayed in female dorm, and believe that 12 girls are a lot!before that I've tried the 6bed and 4bed dorms and they were better.as there is no limit to enter at nights, you will be awake many times during the night and it's not good when you plan to get up early in the morning!
the staff are friendly and reply to questions as much as they can.the breakfast is the same everyday.just 2 pancakes and coffee.

Room Tip: the 12beds female dorm is not good!try the others if possible

It was very nice and clean. Good location and good service. The rooms were perfect and other facilities were too. The interior of the cafe in guesthouse was fantastic and food also good. The staffs were very kind and funny. Especially, Manager is handsome and made me happy so i enjoyed talking with him. I will definitely come back on our next visit and recommend this hotel to friends!

The hostel is really nice, super clean and staff is very friendly. Location is good as it is close to the metro and to some of the temples. Toilets are clean and you have a space before the shower where you can change your clothes. They also have hair dryers! The beds are very comfortable, and each bunk has a socket where you can plug your computer and an individual led light. Each bed also has a little curtain so you have a lot of privacy! The only thing that i didn't like is that they do not have a kitchen where you can cook or store food. And the restaurant downstairs is a little bit expensive. But I would definitively go back there!

Room Tip: Bring a universal adaptor to plug your computer

This is definitely a very well run hostel. The location is good right outside the Kiyomizudera temple, Sannenzaka street, and not too far from Gion.

There is a nice cafe on the first floor. We stayed in a room with 16 beds, which sounds crowded but the layout made it feel fine. You get your own "compartment" with a cubby walls on all sides and a curtain for privacy. The room was nicely air conditioned

The only complaints I had that the bathroom facilities were crowded and often full. There really aren't enough showers for all the guests. The staff that checked us in didn't really read our reservation so they forgot to give us the included amenities like breakfast. I had to go back twice to ask because they would leave something out. Definitely annoying to feel like you need to watch your back and make sure the hotel isn't short changing you on something.

It was such a great experience that I stayed for an entire month in the summer! The rooms are simple, but very spacious and comfortable with air-conditioning, and I also really appreciated the fact that the beds came with privacy curtains. I had no problems getting my rest everyday (even during afternoons) and I don't really have any specific complaints about the rooms at all.

Location-wise, the guesthouse is conveniently located within walking distances to the city center and the famous Gion district (and many other less-known but equally charming geisha districts). They are also located beside Kiyomizudera, one of the must-visits when one is in Kyoto. The convenient distance allowed me to make a 6am trip to be one of the first few people at the temple...which was definitely a better experience in my opinion - without the school kids on excursions and tourists that will arrive in hordes during the rest of the day. I think walking is one of the best ways to see Kyoto, and staying there allowed me to walk to almost all of the landmarks and explore the city at the same time.

Of course, the best part about this hostel would be the lengths that the staff go to, to make everyone feel welcomed. The friendly staff provided me with great advice on sightseeing and recommendations on dining places (such as where is the best conveyor-belt sushi in town and more). I made many friends here and will strongly recommend this guesthouse for travellers (especially those who are traveling alone) as the experience at this guesthouse is really more than just another space for someone looking for the cheapest bed out there for the night. I felt like I was returning home everyday! Thanks for everything, I'll most definitely be back!
