This is a hidden gem -- very well hidden! You must go through the door, past a hallway, down the stairs, and there it is: a tasty curry joint hidden in the midst of downtown Kyoto. The portion sizes are very generous and there is a variety of complimentary pickles: cabbage, fukujinzuke, and leeks. There are well priced sets that include a side salad and beverage. And a wealth of toppings for you to customize your curry -- which comes in a huge boat, full of hot white rice and an addictive curry sauce. I chose a lot of toppings, including katsu (pork cutlet), soft-boiled egg, lightly sauteed vegetables, and crab and cream sauce croquettes. The portion was generous and filling. The sauce was flavorful but balanced; long simmering had mellowed out the edges of the spices, leaving a rich, sweet, and very delicious sauce. Even though my companion and I each ordered a set with side salad, beverage, and a wealth of toppings, our bill was about $30, which is a steal for downtown Kyoto. And don't even compare it to the Coco Curry chain; this is much better!
