“Great value”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

My husband and I spent five nights here during our stay in Kyoto. It was exceptionally cheap for what was offered. The unit is self-contained and very small, but clean and comfortable. It has a kitchen, but no crockery or cutlery (this can be borrowed if requested). The bathroom is compact, but clean, functional and has a TV in the bath/shower. There is a cute little sleeping loft up a ladder from the lounge room which is very comfortable. It was really nice to not be bothered for our entire stay - the property has no reception, so if you need something there is an email address to get in touch with staff.

Being 10 minutes walk from Kyoto station was great as it was a brilliant base to get to the attractions which are spread around the periphery of the city. The actual area around kyoto station is not particularly nice though, even though there is a fairly large shopping centre nearby. There are certainly nicer neighbourhoods. However, this was cheap, clean and safe.

This Western-style accommodation is fully worth its' price. The direct surrounding are smallish residential streets, nothing really special, but within 10 min from the main station. Amenities like fridge, washing machine, tv, internet, heated toilet seat, bathtub and microwave were a plus, as was the possibility of an early check-in. In case of a third person staying in the room be aware that that person has to sleep on a convertible sofa which was not very convenient. But after 2 nights we asked the owner to provide an additional mattress to put on the convertible and that helped. But I guess we only got that because there was 1 Japanese in our group who could talk them into it. Overall, a very good budget option.

Located about 15 minutes walk from Kyoto station. Not easy to find, as it is located behind some shops and houses.

Arrived early, around 11am and the owner is kind enough to let us store our luggage in the room, while he is cleaning it up. Room is not big but with practical design and arrangement. Equipped with washing machine, electrical stove, fridge, kettle, automatic toilet, microwave oven and TV/computer, sofa bed etc. The bed/mattress is at the upper level, which you will need to climb up. Wifi is superfast.

Located is a quiet residential area. There's a pastry shop located at the junction of the road leading to the guesthouse. Cookies taste great. Overall, value for money. It'll be helpful if there's more signboard to guide us to the guesthouse.

Stayed here for 2 nights, it's a 10 minutes stroll to the Kyoto train station, or just over 5 minutes if you walk faster. Arrived, rang the doorbell and was greeted by 2 friendly hosts who showed us our room and gave us helpful advice. Tourist maps were prepared in the room which were helpful too! The room was absolutely clean, there was a computer with internet and free wifi, a washing machine, a stove to cook/boil water (but funnily, no cutlery, cups and dishes!!) and even a TV in the toilet! It was also cool having to climb the ladder to sleep in the cozy "upstairs" of the room, felt like a kid again. Forgot to bring home one of my carry-ons and the host, Jun, was kind enough to help send it back home. Thanks for the wonderful stay! ;)

On our last day, we took a JR train from Kyoto Station straight to Tokyo Haneda International Airport. 2.5 hours, 2000 Yen (JR Day Pass for foreigners – it’s cheaper than buying a one way ticket). Please remember to buy the train ticket early so you won’t have to rush helter-skelter like we did on our last day! For foreigners, if you want to buy the JR Day Pass at the special price, each of you MUST print out your flight ticket and show them your passport to buy it. Kyoto is so beautiful, enjoyed it so much :)

We came at April 2013, avoid to difficult to find it then we call taxi from railway station, even we know its near the station, and everything so easy to work, just checkin with machine (all machine after booking by email) then we find the "room", little bit wonder because the door looks like a container box ! but we find an nice room ( not too big for three persons ) with a nice kitchen, livingroom, bathroom with luxury ofuro place and we go upstairs for sleeping. We can find fruits shop, bakery, yoshinoya around it and not far from railway station (where big and looks like a mall) 5 minutes walk. Yes in the quiet and traditional area.

Room Tip: ask for ground floor because no stair, bring small luggage

I loved the environment. it has a short walk to the most busiest station in Kyoto!
The rooms are super clean (as everything is clean in Japan anyways!). I really enjoyed my one night stay at this guest house and I wish I could stay more. I really enjoyed the showers I was extraordinary :))

The staff are helpful and kind although there is no reception, but the staff will show up with a bell as soon as you need them. You need to climb to get to your bed but I found it fascinating! I will definitely go back here when I go to Kyoto!

I travelled her last October with two friends. So it was three of us in one room. The room was legendary in its design,in terms of making so much out of the space available. There was a small kitchenette, a refrigerator, the japanese style compact bathroom (the bathroom was fairly spacious) a small living area with a couch, a wall mounted tv, mini closet for storage, a table and chair with a computer! Then there is a ladder that takes you upstairs to the second layer (where you can only sit and not stand!) , that space has a futon (or a matress) large enough for three people. However one of my friends slept in the sofa , and the two of us used this 'bedroom'!

The location: its about 15-20 minutes from the main kyoto station, follow the locations clearly and its hard to miss it. It is located in those cute narrow alleys which houses a lot of traditional jajanese style houses. There is a little box outside with your keys in it and they send you the password for the box much earlier by mail. You need to use that password and take out the key and can proceed straight to the room! There is also a buzzer, and if pushed the guy (or his wife) come out, they speak fairly good English and can help you out. so unless you summon them, its hard to meet them :)
