“Impressive, but a few let downs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

The Buddha statues really are an impressive sight but I was let down by two things, the first was that we aren't actually allowed to take any photos of the Buddah's. While I understand this as the site is a very sacred religious and traditional site, I question why then there is a fee to enter the Hall?.The second let down was that there isn't much in the vicinity of the area - with other sites there are always food vendors, souvenirs, trinkets etc on offer which give it a lively and cheerful atmosphere, this seemed a little out of the way and didn't have any of the above. However, it was only a 20 minute walk from Kyoto Station and back into the hustle and bustle of Kyoto life!

“Well worth a visit ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014 via mobile

Really enjoyed this visit. Had read that it was a long hall with 1001 statues but didn't prepare me for the sight. Breathtaking. Plenty explanations in English of the statues along the front. Beautiful large Buddha in centre and those 1001? Go see them. Lovely garden and more to learn too.

“Wonderful temple worth visiting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2014

This temple was recommended to us at the hotel and it really is worth visiting. It is a long, long wooden structure that houses one thousand buddha statues - the walk around those is almost breathtaking. There is a really nice garden around the temple and we were lucky enough to be there when the sakura trees blossomed.

“Lots o buddhas”

Long (120m) wooden hall with 1001 buddha statues. Next door to the Hyatt, so was hard to miss on our way back to hotel.

“Worth the time if you are visiting nearby temples.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2014

If you are in the area, stop by here. It is within easy walking distance to Kyomizodera temple. There were fewer visitors (still busy) so it was much easier to walk around. There are 1001 large statues inside the building. Pretty garden surrounding the buildings. Not a must see place but I would recommend to see if you have time. I am not sure why it is so high in the trip advisor rating. I can easily think of 7 or 8 better places to see or do in Kyoto.
