Owner description: This world heritage site was the home of Tokugawa leyasu, one of the most powerful men in Japan. The castle was built as a residence and not for defense purposes. However, to protect the shogun from enemies, special creaky floorboards were installed to warn of anyone approaching.

Lovely grounds but a little too early for the cherry blossoms. Will be absolutely gorgeous once they are out

This wooden castle is an early Edo period building designs. Built in 1603, more than 400yrs old building is well preserved for the new generations to appreciate. The building is elegant yet simple in architectural style. One of the historical site that should not be missed.

Easy to access, popular attraction. Lots of history. Beautiful grounds. Would be "wow" in cherry blossom season.

The castle is nice. There is. A audio tour you can take but unfortunately I didn't ( didn't had time) you have to take your shoes of to walk on the wood floor. There isn't enought information in English but you can still have a nice time. The garden at the back of the castle is beautiful. You can do the visit in 2 hrs more or less.

Place clearly shows how powerful shogun was at that time.
Castle interior rooms are surrounded by corridors with funny squeaking floors - ninja alarm system I guess :o)
All interiors contain picturesque and very well preserved wall paintings.
