Owner description: This most-visited temple in Kyoto was built to honor Kannon, the goddess of mercy. It's beautiful hillside location offers spectacular views of the city and valley below.

Another temple in Japan, but this is a great place to visit, another temple to look at and enjoy. This place is also very crowded. For me, the fun part of this visit is the shops around the area that sells all sorts of food, snacks, and souvenirs as well as Kyomizu pottery. It is a bit on the touristy side, but then most popular sites take advantage of this aspect.

This place is so beautiful. I really did not know what to expect here, no idea what a treat I was in for here. When I first walked in and looked around everything was so beautiful and peaceful even with the crowd around me. I thought how nice it was but felt it was just another beautiful temple in Japan. That was until I continued through and to the path where I could see the temple as shown in so many of these pictures. The pictures come nowhere close to showing the real beauty here. This place is amazing. I reached the bottom of the steps to find people drinking from a fountain with cup mounted at the end of long sticks and a small place to have noodles. I really felt that I could stay there forever and found it difficult to leave.

Kyoto is an ancient city that requires traveling by either taxi or bus to see most sites. The subway and trains do not run conveniently near enough to most tourist sites. You need to be prepared to do a lot of walking hills and stairs, Kiyomizu temple is no exception. You will be rewarded with beautiful views and traditional Japanese shops. Be prepared for many tourists or school children on field trips everywhere in Kyoto!

Amazing view once you pass Kiyomizu temple itself and you can see the temple to your right, the view of central kyoto straigh on and the pavillion to your left. Lots of souvenir shops around here too!

It is a very crowded attraction, yet there is a nice view of Kyoto from the area and fairly nice structure on a wooden perch.

Worth a visit.
