“nice walk going to the temple”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012

The way going to the temple is surrounded by different shops and kiosk, nice to shop for traditional kyoto handicrafts, the temple itself was simple, more for devotees, but it was nice to stroll around.

“Always good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

I have been to this temple many times and it is one of my favourites. At the moment there is some construction going on so you can't get a good photo of the whole temple from the viewing platform. Hopefully that will be finished soon.

“A peaceful place with nice view!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

A beautiful wooden temple surrounded by nature with a great view of Kyoto city! An ideal place for great photos! Also next to the temple there is running water where you can drink it using small metal cups, japanese people believe that this water purifies yourself and gives you bless!

“it's a loooong way up”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

wear comfy footwear. from the bus station, it's a 500m ascent to just the base of the temple. but the climb is rewarding -- the street leading up is filled with shops and restaurants offering traditional japanese food and wares.

the spirit of old-time japan is very much alive in this area. many locals and tourists are dressed in kimonos, and the atmosphere is a pleasant mix of old and new.

near the bus station are shops that let you rent kimonos for about Y3000; in the late afternoon, the prices are cut in half.
