Owner description: One of Kyoto's most famous attractions, this temple was originally built in 1397 as a residence for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The structure was completely covered in gold leaf, earning it the name Golden Pavilion.

“Great place to visit.”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

My husband and I visited the Golden Temple with a Japanese friend in June 2012. We spent several hours wandering the grounds along paths lined with wonderful trees. I particularly liked the white garden, so tranquil and spiritual.

“Top tourist spot”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

If you are in Kyoto, the Golden Palace is a must see site. The picture , while excellent, doesn't compare to seeing this Golden Palace. It's reflection in the lake and the gardens next to it are wonderful sites. The only problem with this site is that because of its beauty and fame, everyone wants to see. it.

“Such a beatiful place”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

We live in Asia since 3 years and we have seen our fair share of temples, but this is absolutely stunning and a must see in Kyoto. It is so beatiful! The garden is very serene and you feel very calm when walking around. It's also an easy visit with a clear path to follow, so you can walk around slowly be sure to see everything and be out within half an hour if you want to.
