Owner description: One of Kyoto's most famous attractions, this temple was originally built in 1397 as a residence for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The structure was completely covered in gold leaf, earning it the name Golden Pavilion.

Tip: go there during sunset, the reflected sunlight simply makes the temple glows.

The temple is covered by gold leaves, amazing sight.

!0 years ago I visited the Kinkaku-ji and was very impressed with the beauty of the place. Recently I re-visited the place and it has become very touristy and very crowded with visitors and photographers. I no longer enjoyed the palce

I liked everything about it, wonderful opportunities for photos, in spite of the number of people there I found it very peaceful

Kinkaku-ji is one of my favorite places to visit in the world and my favorite in Kyoto. I have been 3 times in various seasons and I was in awe with each visit.

The place can be busy but if you are patient the crowed seems to surge and then dissipate throughout the day.

The view of the Shrine and small lake are just simply incredible there are very few places like it in the world. The garden is enjoyable through twists and turns of the train but the Pavilion itself is the clear star. You can also walk to Ryoanji from here so it is great to visit both places at once.
