The Ginkakuji (or Silver Pavillon) is a Zen temple located in the hills on the eastern edge of Koyto. While the temple is stunning it is the garden(s) that make this a must visit if you are ever in Kyoto. It seems as though any stress or care you have or ever had melts away once you step into the Temple grounds and gardens. Even with the hordes of people visiting the temple you would swear that you are the only one in the garden. It's got it all, koi ponds, manicured shrubs and trees, sculptured Zen sand gardens and lovely walkways that wind through moss covered grounds. We were fortunate to have visited during a light drizzle of rain and the moss was spectacular with the glistening water droplets.
By using the Kyoto bus system you can easily accesses the garden. We found the Kyoto bus system to be the best way to travel and maneuver through Kyoto. We purchased a two-day pass, which allowed for access to any bus at any time anywhere. A great value.
A trip to the Ginkakuji Garden is an absolute must do while in Kyoto
